Vehicle Description

Concours Restoration - No Expense Spared - Stunning Color Combo - 414 Miles Since Restored (Please note: If you happen to be viewing this Volkswagen Beetle convertible on a website other than our Garage Kept Motors site, it's possible that you've only seen some of our many photographs of this vehicle due to website limitations. To be sure you access all the more than 130 photographs, please go to our main website: GarageKeptMotors.) 1966 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible - The best Beetle of them all. That accolade was penned by CurbsideClassic.com writer, Paul Niedermeyer, writing about the 1966 Volkswagen Beetle. In addition to personal nostalgia for the car-his brother owned one-Niedermeyer also pointed to the '66 car's power upgrade: the largest-ever power increase in the long-lived Beetle model (+25%) for a dramatic improvement in acceleration and a top speed of 80-82 mph. That rev-happy 1300 (1285cc) engine would be a one-year-only feature, and, with the sloping headlights also in their final year, made the 1966 Beetle a VW-collector favorite. The fully restored Beetle convertible offered here is a concours-quality-indeed, a concours winner-example of the legendary 1966 Volkwagen. It is in every respect a standout automobile. The lovely shade of blue is the result of a complete, photo-documented, bare-metal re-spray. The white fabric convertible top and cover make for an appealing combination evoking images of a Mediterranean-beach holiday. A combination of original and new-old-stock parts has, by way of a rotisserie restoration, returned the car to virtually showroom-new condition. Inside, multi-tone, gray fabric seat upholstery with white piping is complemented by square-weave gray material on the door panels and lower interior vertical surfaces. The style statement is classic Teutonic. In the same way, the wicker parcel shelf running below the entire dash is both simple and practical. That same design ethic continues in the Becker AM radio that met every audio need back in 1966, the simple rubber floor covering, and the only-what's-necessary dashboard instrumentation. Where American cars of that time celebrated chrome and excess, the Beetle was a minimalist's dream. The 1285cc engine here is original to the car, and like everything else, is fully restored. Every mechanical aspect of the car is completely functional including the floor-shifted transmission, lighting, brakes, and manual convertible-top mechanism. One look in the engine compartment is all it takes to realize the care and attention to detail that went into the car's three-year reincarnation. But every discriminating collector will also want to inspect the undercarriage photographs and the images of the front trunk, all showing condition that can only be called factory-new. A mere 414 miles appear on the car's odometer documenting the distance it's traveled since its three-year-long restoration was completed. It won't take much imagining, however, for the car's new owner to picture piloting this blue Beetle convertible out of the dealership for the first time, maybe on an inaugural drive to the beach. Hey, it's 1966 all over again! Be sure to check out all the photos and video on our main website: Garage Kept Motors. Call if interested or e-mail with any questions. Thank you for looking.
