1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Over the past 105 years, Chevrolet has built such a vast empire of
lovable offerings that some of them just seem to get overlooked.
Possibly the most substantial victim of that unfortunate phenomenon
is the storied Monte Carlo. Introduced in 1970, and proudly parked
in over half a million driveways during its first three years of
production, the brand's 'personal luxury coupe' was decidedly cool.
And, not as ostentatious as a Corvette or as boorish as a Camaro,
the car spent most of its life as the poster child for evolving
automotive tastes.
Bestowed upon us is this 1987 Monte Carlo, with a nice respray, a
faded interior, and unrestored engine bay, but with a different
engine than original.
Exterior
Black with red badging and a wide pinstripe that runs the length of
this car on the belt line. Paint is in good condition, with a
smooth finish overall. Standard Chevrolet wheel covers are all
around.
Interior
Faded tuck and roll inserts with vinyl bolsters make up the buckets
in front. Slightly faded cloth covers the rear bench. Driver's seat
is showing wear on the entry side, passenger seat is very faded.
Back seat is showing a little fading, and overall interior is
clean. Instrument panel is original and very clean. Center console
houses the shift lever, which sits within, and has no gear markings
to the side of it. Red carpet is on the floors and appears in good
condition. Headliner is red and shows some looseness near the front
of the windshield.
Drivetrain
A 350ci V8 (not original to this car) is inserted in the engine
bay. It has a single 4-barrel Quadra-Jet carburetor, and a 200R4
4-speed automatic attached to the back.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust, but floorpans, rockers and frame are solid, and
no rust shown. Bottom of doors has slight surface rust. A 10 bolt
3.73 posi-trac rear is installed, and power disc brakes in front,
and power drums on the rear.
Overall exterior nice, interior faded, and different engine
installed. Interior is clean, exterior is very nice, and the car
runs and shifts smoothly.
