Vehicle Description
1967 Mercury Cougar XR7
Why This Vehicle is Special
The 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 like the one we have here at Skyway
Classics was the sporty car Mercury built after seeing the success
of Ford's Mustang.
They were very different cars because the Cougar has a unique body
and interior and ours has been kept to an almost all original
condition like it just drove off the showroom floor. Our Cougar was
the upscale XR-7, which debuted halfway into 1967.
Mechanical
Our Cougar has what appears to be the original 289 cubic inch V8
with the Ford Blue paint on the engine, aluminum grooved Mickey
Thompson valve covers, factory blue air filter with factory 289
decal still on it, power steering, factory exhaust system, air
conditioning, power brakes, and all sitting in a clean factory
stock looking engine compartment, and all backed by a C4 3-speed
automatic transmission known for its durability.
The 1967 rides on steel wheels with factory styled hubcaps with
whitewall tires on a solid chassis with upgraded shocks.
Exterior
The 1967 Cougar has a bright red finish in good condition showing
off the long hood/short deck two-door hardtop, the only body style
available in the Cougar's first two years of production. The Cougar
looks elegant and sculpted with crisp fenders, upturned bumper
edges, all the great chrome, and the quad headlamps hidden behind
split grilles and sequential tail lamps behind.
Interior
The interior looks great as it did back in 1967. It has black
leather bucket seats, optional center console, chrome gearshift,
air conditioning, AM/FM radio, factory steering wheel, and power
brakes. Our Cougar was the upscale XR-7 which and featured a
wood-grained dashboard with matching steering wheel,
competition-style instrumentation and sporty toggle switches and
leather seating surfaces.
Conclusion
This 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 has all the performance of the
Mustang, but in a more sophisticated, luxury-oriented, and mature
package. It looks factory original and if you are seeking a hard to
find classic pony car with European styling, then you should come
see our 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7.
