Vehicle Description
A top-quality build with the best of everything - that's what this
1965 Pontiac GTO Pro Touring convertible has to offer. After all,
with a tri-power V8, upgraded five-speed, upgraded suspension, an
A/C interior, and award-worthy paint, this the one classic you can
enjoy driving anywhere and showing off everywhere.
The paint that's instantly grabbing your attention is called Onyx
Blue. It's actually borrowed from the Lexus palette. That modern
color with a reminder of precision luxury makes sense considering
this GTO had a meticulous rotisserie restoration that was finished
in March 2019 (and less than 1100 miles added since.) This was
performed by John Dubois, who is a true master a creating the
ultimate in fast and pristine award-worthy classics. And the full
investment in this GTO droptop was worth it. You'll be mesmerized
by the mirror-like bumpers, crisp hood scoop, and all the correct
trim. But this is more than just a precision restored classic. The
larger 18-inch alloy hint to all the upgrades beneath the skin.
This car gets to show you two personalities. The crisp black
convertible roof complements the darker tones of the blue for a
well-coordinated look. But with the flip of a switch, the roof
powers down to reveal a whole new dimension. The new white interior
makes the paint look like a deep ocean wave, and the white seats
are the crest. This is as fresh as the restoration, and they got
the details right - from the Pontiac arrowhead pattern in the
seats, to the correct GTO emblems in the door panels. But this is a
car that was built to hop into on a whim, and so the dark carpets
mean never having to worry about dusty shoes. The center console
and wood applique dashboard have a great classic look, but as you
dig deeper, there are plenty of terrific upgrades to discover. The
retro-style radio is really a modern digital AM/FM tuner with
cassette and 10-disc CD changer. And cold-blowing R134a air
conditioning means top-down fun all summer long. You have great
driving features, like an upgraded steering wheel, power steering,
and backlit Dakota Digital VHX gauges. And have you counted the
gears on the Hurst shifter yet?
Pontiac's famous 389 cubic-inch V8 is a legend that doesn't need
much introduction. But when you pop the hood at the car shows,
people will gravitate to what's on top of this V8 first. It's the
famous tri-power setup, and this is the ultra-desirable '66 where
they used the larger two-barrel carburetors for all three sets. It
even has the proper gasket for a true fresh air intake. And this is
only the beginning of the upgrades. This V8 has been bored .60
over, and it includes Edelbrock Stage 4 aluminum heads, roller cam
& rockers, an aluminum intake, and Doug's long tube headers. Plus,
you have all the right supporting components, like upgraded pulleys
w/serpentine belts, MSD ignition, and a Be Cool aluminum radiator
w/electric fans that can keep this running cool even in traffic
with the A/C pumping. And just to make sure all the power gets to
the ground properly, you have a Tremec five-speed manual
transmission that feeds a Positraction rear end. Oh yeah, that
makes this custom convertible perfect for everything from overdrive
cruising to downshifting into performance driving. And there have
even been the right suspension upgrades to go with the big power.
The ultra-clean undercarriage shows off the full RideTech
suspension with tubular A-arms up front, adjustable coilovers, and
thick sway bars front & rear. There's even big SSBC four-wheel disc
brakes to go with the performance tires.
