For the model year 1972, Porsche built 12,962 "911" model cars. Of those, only 1,750 were S coupes and just 989 were S-spec Targas. The 911S model produced 210HP and is highly sought after. The S model 911 uniquely featured alloy front brake calipers, Koni shock absorbers, front and rear anti-roll bars, and the "S" exterior trim package.
While many Porsche enthusiasts prefer the rigidity of the coupe, the Targa model with its ability to fill the cockpit with sunshine and fresh air, has its own special appeal and a certain charm that seems to be magnetic to many who see and experience it. It's no wonder that today, the much rarer Targa model is in high demand.
This numbers-matching example was purchased out of longtime ownership/storage and has spent many years hidden away by CPR. This sublime 911S Targa has just completed a ground-up, rotisserie restoration by our marque experts to CPR Classic’s highest standards.
The car was stripped down to the bare metal tub with all paint and undercoating having been removed. It was then metal worked with lead, and the gaps were set to beautiful factory correct tolerances. From there, the car was sealed, epoxied and undercoated and then refinished in the factory correct Glasurit two-stage paint in silver, per the Certificate of Authenticity. It was then color sanded and buffed to original factory quality looks and condition.
Every nut and bolt during the restoration was replaced, restored, or refinished to like new condition. This full-scale restoration included all systems and components of the car, to include: engine, transmission, braking system, electrical systems, body repair and prep, exterior refinish, a complete brand new period correct red leather interior by Autobahn Interiors, freshly refinished Fuchs wheels by Al Reed Polishing and brand new Porsche factory approved Pirelli CN36 tires.
This 911S Targa is just about as close as you can get today to walking into a Porsche dealer's showroom in 1972 and buying a fresh-off-the-factory-floor, new 911.
