Vehicle Description
When it comes to the new group of classics, this Cobra is king. The
1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra packs rarity, power, and poise in a
highly documented and exceptionally low mileage museum-worthy level
of preservation.
The third-generation Mustang was having its swan song in 1993, but
the Special Vehicle Team (SVT) at Ford decided to send it off with
something extraordinary. They made this final year the one and only
time for the Cobra package. The exterior was given subtle upgrades
with a new grille up front, vintage pony emblem in place of the
blue oval, and chrome cobras on the fenders. The rear has some
interesting features such as a unique SVT spoiler, and a new light
arrangement not seen since the rare Mustang SVO. The 7-spoke,
17-inch aluminum wheels are unique to these one-year only Cobras,
and with such low mileage, they appear to have never seen a curb.
In fact, the whole presentation, including the vibrant red paint
remains award-worthy. This is due to exceptional respect and
averaging only about 300 miles annually. So you're likely looking
at closest to factory-fresh you can find today while remaining
original. And there's a special reason why this commanded respect
from day one: rarity. There were less than 5,000 Cobras produced in
1993, and only 1,775 were finished in this red.
The interior is where a new classic like this Cobra really shines
because there is a lot of modern integration. After all, where else
is there a car this cool that comes with an airbag? The bucket
seats are still in pristine condition thanks to the meticulous
owners. They have real bolstering to make long trips vastly more
comfortable and supportive. Another advantage of driving a new
classic is a factory-installed HVAC system that can blow some
serious arctic air all day long. It's loaded with plenty more
features, including a power driver's seat, power windows, power
locks, power mirrors, rear defroster, an AM/FM/cassette stereo,
cruise control, and a sunroof. So while it has nearly impossibly
low mileage, this coupe is also a terrific place to enjoy time
behind the wheel.
Rarity, lower mileage, and pristine care gives this Cobra
desirability, but where it earns its value is in the engineering.
The SVT department started out with the trusty 5.0-liter V8 block,
and then did some in-house shopping at Ford Motorsports. This
includes the larger valves of the GT-40 cylinder head package,
high-flow fuel injectors, performance camshaft, revised computer
programming, and a GT-40 cast aluminum intake. The result was one
of the meanest cars Ford slipped out the back door. And this
original motor still looks factory-fresh. They also beefed up the
clutch and the dependable Borg Warner T-5 five-speed manual
transmission to make sure all the power is handled reliably. The
performance package was topped off with suspension upgrades such as
sway bars front & rear, improved rear springs and four-wheel disc
brakes.
The sale comes with all the right paperwork, including the original
window sticker, SVT certificate, original bill of sale, warranty
card, owner's manual, title documentation, and maintenance records.
There are even notes from the previous owners. This is a car that
has been kept reserved for true collectors, so if you're ready to
