For Sale: 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in Seekonk, Massachusetts

Vehicle Description

This absolutely spectacular 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS w/ “L78” engine is an outstanding example.  This is one of the best Chevelles on the planet.  This car has won many prestigious awards including Chevy Vettefest Gold Spinner Concours, Chevy Vettefest World of Wheels Promoter’s Pick “Best Restored Chevy”, Chevy Vettefest Judge’s Choice “Top Gun”, Super Chevy “Winner Award”, Chevellabration “Top Three 69 Stock” and Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals “Concourse Gold”.  As the VIN indicates this car was born a 1969 Chevrolet Malibu 8cyl 2-dr. Sports Coupe built in Kansas City, MO.  This Chevelle began life as a numbers matching Frost Green SS 396 L35-325HP with 3-speed manual transmission.  As the NCRS Shipping Data Report indicates the GM production date was 3/31/1969 and the dealer code was 833 in zone 23.  It is believed to have been sold at Craig Ayers Chevrolet located in Edmond, OK.  Prior to the meticulous frame off nut and bolt restoration this car was purchased from the Volo Auto Museum in 1999.  The car came to Volo from Oklahoma repainted “Resale Red” with approximately 60,000 miles.  The owner was able to trace back two previous owners in Oklahoma.  A few letters and a license plate from the previous owners are included.  The owner enjoyed the car until January 2005 when he started a frame off restoration.  Prior to the restoration the owner collected many NOS and restored parts to build the car as a “Numbers Matching” L78 375HP- M22 4-speed car.  The project was overseen by well-known Dan Vasic and many other knowledgeable 1969 Chevelle enthusiasts to ensure the car is a very accurate reproduction of a real L78 Chevelle.  This car was restored to high show quality standards.  Well over $100K was invested in this car and it shows.  The body was sent to Custom Cars Unlimited in LaGrange, IL to complete the body and paint work.  Custom Cars Unlimited has a great reputation for excellent work and they charge accordingly.  The body was taken to bare metal and painted the desirable color of Monaco Orange (code #72).  The orange paint is complemented with a black side stripe.  The paint on this car is magnificent and miles deep.  It’s one of the best paint jobs MS CLASSIC CARS has ever had on one of our classic vehicles which says a lot considering the quality of vehicles we’ve owned over the years.  All of the glass is new and stamped like it was from the factory.  Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced to high quality standards.  Some of these items include the window stainless trim, hood vents, driver’s mirror, door handles, grill, bezels, lights, bumpers, emblems, etc.  The car sits on the correct GM YA dated wheels with Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport F70-14 tires.  The black vinyl bench front seat interior (code #755) is in like new condition throughout.  It was restored by Ogden Top and Trim in Berwyn, IL with all new Legendary interior.  Everything in the interior was restored or replaced including the headliner, sun visors, NOS map light rear view mirror, NOS rear window defogger, dash, door panels, hardware, carpeting, rubber floor mats, etc.  The GM gauges including the tachometer and AM/FM radio were restored.  It has the correct GM Deluxe seat belts and correct floor shifter with 4-speed pattern shift knob.  It’s equipped with power steering and a GM tilt steering column with GM 3-spoke steering wheel.  Everything in the interior is in working order including the clock.  The reproduction AM/FM radio tag and visor sleeve with starting instructions are included.  A show board with stand is also included. The trunk compartment has been restored and is very detailed.  Its home to the matching spare, tools and trunk mat.  The engine compartment is highly detailed with many correct features throughout.  Factory stickers and paint marks were placed accordingly.  This car is powered by a real 396 L78 375HP engine that runs and sounds excellent.  The engine was rebuilt by Precision Engine Rebuilder in Plainfield, IL.  The engine is a correct GM 4-bolt #272 casting block with GM #840 cylinder heads and GM #163 intake.  The engine was completely rebuilt with roller valve train but otherwise modern stock spec components internally.  The engine produced 411HP on an engine dyno prior to installation.  It’s equipped with a #4346 Holley carburetor, GM #065 water pump, GM deep groove pulleys, GM #837 alternator with date coded diodes, correct GM yellow-tip dipstick and Jeff Dotterer restored fuel pump.  It has a complete GM smog system.  It also has a very rare original GM Cowl Plenum Air Cleaner.  This air cleaner alone is worth thousands and thousands of dollars.  It has a Delco Energizer R59 battery with the correct style battery cables.  The engine breathes through factory manifolds and a correct Gardner chambered exhaust system with GM 1969 rolled exhaust tips.  The engine is coupled to a completely rebuilt M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed manual transmission.  The engine numbers indicate it was originally paired with a 4-speed transmission.  This transmission shifts very nicely and the clutch is very easy to operate.  The power is transferred to the pavement through a rebuilt 12-bolt posi rear end with 3.73 gears.  The undercarriage is highly detailed with many correct features throughout.  Many factory stickers and paint marks were placed accordingly.  Everything underneath has been restored or replaced.  It’s equipped with power brakes that work great.  Since the restoration was completed it has been driven approximately 1,200 miles.  The car has been kept in a heated garage with a dehumidifier and in a “Car Jacket”.  This car is ready to be shown at any show and compete with the best.  This car is also ready to be driven and enjoyed.  This is a great opportunity!  This car was recently serviced and detailed which is documented with an invoice that is included.
