For Sale: 1965 Mercury Cyclone in Palmetto, Florida

Vehicle Description

1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone

Why This Vehicle is Special:
This 1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone we have here at Skyway Classics is very nice and very rare too! 1965 Cyclones are rare today, and best estimates are that only about 400 authentic models of both the 225hp and 271hp models exist. Most Comet Cyclones were built in Lorain, Ohio, but some were built in Los Angeles. An L.A.-built car would have the letter "J" as the second character of the VIN, as ours does.

Mechanical:
The engine in our Comet Cyclone is a 289-cu.in. V-8 with 225hp at 4,400 rpm and 305-lbs.ft. of torque at 3,200 rpm, with 9.30:1 compression. The cylinder blocks were built with durable precision-cast alloy iron, five main bearings, hydraulic lifters, a Ford C5MF-9510-A four-barrel carburetor, and the correct code for this engine is "A."

The 225hp Cyclone had an aluminum water pump. The engine block, heads and intake manifold of all Cyclone engines were painted black, and the Hi-Po package included chrome rocker arm covers and a chrome open-element air cleaner and the transmission is the infamous Ford Toploader 4-speed manual.

Interior:
The interior in the Cyclone features black bucket seats with pleated vinyl covers over laminated fiber and foam, which gave the Cyclone the most luxurious seats in its class. A console was also standard equipment with the Cyclone. The unique door panels with pleated vinyl, bright upper and lower moldings, black vinyl insert and Cyclone nameplate, also in black, adorned the garnish molding.

The instrument panel had four large circular gauges-fuel, oil-pressure, amperes and temperature, mounted in front of the driver, two on each side of the big-dial 120-mph speedometer. Our Cyclone features the "Cyclone" tachometer.

Exterior:
The exterior is an article blue metallic that is also in great shape. The body is rust free from what we saw, both on the exterior and undercarriage.

Conclusion:
This is a very rare, and clean, vehicle. Perfect for driving and collecting. Our Comet has power steering to add to the drivability of the vehicle, dual exhaust, an amazingly clean under carriage, and a very detailed engine bay.
