Known History From New Including Forty Years of Single Ownership
and Care between 1972-2012 #2372 is a late example of Maserati's
famed Ghibli 4.9 Liter SS Coup, completed in July of 1972 by
Officine A. Maserati S.p.A., wearing Oro Kelso (gold) paint over
Black Connoly leather with comforts worthy of such a thoroughbred
GT: adjustable steering column, anti-theft steering lock, tinted &
electric windows, reclining seats with head rests, heated rear
windscreen, dashboard clock and air conditioning. Long excursions
are intended to be comfortable thanks to power steering and plenty
of power on reserve from the 4.9 liter V8 motor. Maserati S.p.A. of
Modena confirms with original Certificate of Origin that all
chassis, engine and body numbers are matching as it left the
factory. Additional Classiche documents include: Final Tests data
Sheet, Technical & Aesthetic Characteristics, End of Line Data
Sheet and Delivery Note.
The SS was delivered to the States through Grossman Motor Cars
Corp. of New York, and sold new on March 8, 1974 with a trade in of
a 1971 E-Type. A copy of the original Bill of Sale accompanies
2372. In an interview with the original owner a resident of the
Hamptons in NY he stated that he was originally in the market for a
Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona but after driving both the Ghibli SS and
the Daytona at the selling dealer he decided that the Ghibli was
just a much smoother car and that he fell in love with the
drivability and overall feel. The Ghibli spent a great deal of its
life in the area under original ownership until the beginning of
this decade, and still retains a period East Hampton parking permit
on the left rear side glass. In 2013 the SS was purchased and sent
to Italy by its second caretaker for a complete nut and bolt
restoration to a delivery new appearance, specification and
mechanical prowess by marque experts. The results are simply
stunning. This 3-owner car makes a statement in every setting,
especially with its Oro Kelso paint, brilliant brightwork and a
concours level fit and finish throughout - All lending a gorgeous
luxurious presence not often expressed in this model.
Aside from the dossier of Maserati Classiche documentation, the car
is complete with concours quality Tool Roll, matching Spare Wheel,
Use & Maintenance Manual and Spare Parts Manual. DriverSource has
bought and sold nearly two dozen Ghiblis and we can undoubtedly say
that this is by far one of the finest examples we have ever
offered.
The restoration sets the bar high, if you have been in the market
for a top of the line Ghibli 4.9SS you will be hard pressed to find
a finer example. To find fault on this car will prove challenging
and we can strongly recommend it to collectors and enthusiast
alike. Now available for worldwide purchase and delivery.
