For Sale: 1968 GMC 2500 in Branford, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

1968 GMC 2500 4x4 Longbed

This truck has had a long hard life as a farm truck.

The original owner, a local CT farmer, purchased the truck new in 1968 after the 49 GMC (seen in the back ground) was getting tired and couldn't do the work of a new-fangled 4x4.

The truck was used for everything you can imagine from hauling hay and animals to making runs into town for supplies, equipment parts and even pulling out stuck tractors. This truck reportedly covered just 35K miles before quite literally being put out to pasture next to the 49 in the late 80's/early 90's.

It has been sitting there since.

This truck has the fairly odd/rare 305 V6 that emulates the 348/409 head design that puts out roughly 170HP and 270 lbft of torque. It is backed up by a Muncie SM465 4 speed manual and a 4 position (believed to be a Dana 20 ) transfer case. This truck is equipped with the HD rear springs and an 8 lug Dana 60 axle out back and 8 lug Dana 44 up front.

The frame is very solid with only surface rust, no rot. The same cannot be said for the cab, there may not be one panel on the cab that isn't affected by rot... even the firewall. Interestingly enough, the bed sides and fenders are OK, with just  minimal rot where the fenders touch the stepside. The wood that made up the bed surface has long rotted away.

There are a lot of trim pieces that are still in pretty good shape and unbelievably, all 4 original T-3 headlights are still in place.

Although technically very savable (entire cabs are available all over the internet) this is most probably a parts truck, as the long bed 4x4's aren't carrying the value of the short bed, 2WD brethren.

Asking price on this old work truck is $1200 for the great array of parts still available on it... or the off chance that someone may want to restore this old work horse.

Any questions, to schedule a time to see it in person or to make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for the interest.
