Vehicle Description
1934 Ford 40 Coupe
The great thing about the evolution of hot rodding is: over the
past 30 years a vast array of excellent products has continually
streamed onto the market. And presently, anyone with a check book
and an affinity for going way too fast and looking way too good can
build anything from state-of-the-art avant-garde to old school
cool. This sweet Ford Coupe, wrapping a modern chassis and reliable
V8 in show stopping aesthetics, is a ground-up build that combines
the core strengths of original hot rodding with an uncompromising
vision and top-notch componentry. And, if you're looking to score a
fully sorted custom that mixes classic good looks with proven road
manners, it's a strong candidate for your next street rod!
Exterior
A 34 3-window Downs fiberglass body covers a TCI frame. It is
bathed in Bright Medium Blue and sports some red graphics below the
"B" pillar, which Alsop has a red stripe shooting forward and dying
in an arrow point on the cowled hood. 2 white stripes also head
forward and die into the doors. This rod has original looking
bumpers nicely chromed, headlights that rest atop each fender, a
shiny vertical ribbed swept back shield shaped grille fronts the
cowled hood assembly, and the fenders have a custom fitted bra to
keep those pesky bugs off the pristine fenders. American racing
15-6's in front, and 15-7's in the rear and 5-spoked shallow dish
polished wheels are all wrapped by snazzy Uniroyal tires.
Interior
Starting from the windshield, a perfect blue dash with stunning
white VDO gauges imbedded within, and a matching adjustable
steering column, topped by a tan leather clad 4 spoke Fatman
polished aluminum steering wheel, which allows clear view of those
gorgeous gauges. The tall Lokar shifter with an aluminum knob, and
tan leather boot reaches upward for easy ergonomic shifting.
Venting for the Vintage air hangs below the dash. Tan carpeting
covers the floor and is in good condition. A pair of low back
buckets covered in cloth with vinyl edging sit in front of the dash
configuration, and this makes up the coupes 3-window cockpit. There
is a carpet covered trunk storage area which presents very nicely
and has plenty of extra storage space...and is actuated by remote
control.
Drivetrain
A 1973 Chevrolet 307ci V8 clad with chromed valve covers, Hooker
headers, and an Edelbrock carb and intake manifold, and spiked by
an HEI ignition, can be seen with a flip off either cowl panel
below the hood. An Isley cam is bolted in for more performance.
This nicely presenting mill is backed by an automatic 350 Turbo
transmission.
Undercarriage
The gray powder coated TCI frame houses an 8' Ford rear with a 2.79
ratio. At either end of the rear axle are Ford brakes. A TCI 4 link
with coil over shocks, and a Mustang II Independent front
suspension with Fatman brakes. All wiring seen is Painless.
Overall a very nice presentation, with simplicity but elegance,
conveniences, and ease of operation (quick starter, air
conditioning, power steering and automatic). A convenience rod,
that can be shown, and shown off with little to no effort after
driving away from our Classic Auto Mall Lot.
