Vehicle Description
1974 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
As a contemporary homage to the classic muscle car, the 1974
Chevrolet Monte Carlo followed the letter of the law, if not the
spirit. The Monte at this point in the evolution was a full-size
car with a full-size engine and was trying to thwart the current
emissions regulations while offering plenty of power. These early
beginnings of the Monte Carlo would be very influential to the
remainder of the history of the car, which would go on to be a
NASCAR favorite, and known as a muscle car...gas crisis or no gas
crisis, damn the torpedoes with the emissions too!
For consignment, a matching numbers car with the frame, body and
engine with transmission, and believed to be the original rear
differential, but the tag may have been taken off for a service and
never put back on, so we cannot verify this, only make an
assumption based on condition of remainder of the car.
Exterior
This big Monte with Cream Beige enamel exterior paint, and a Landau
top also in Cream Beige, presents in very nice condition. Consigner
states 1 respray and some re-chrome on the bumpers, and new
American Racing wheels, although 3 wire wheel cover originals will
come with the car, the rest of the car remains original. Badging is
all correct, and steel panels remain straight with good gaps.
Interior
Light Neutral Vinyl covers the front split 50/50 bench and rear
bench which show nice and clean and have some vertical stitching
with a 3/4 high button. Front driver's seat has an electric 6-way
control for the moving the bench seat. Custom deluxe seat belts
hold you tightly in place as you fly down the highway in this large
cruiser canoe. Air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel, cruise
control, and special instrumentation are imbedded within the very
clean faux burl dash. Headliner is good, and door panels that match
the seats contain the power window toggles, and drivers side mirror
adjust toggle.
Drivetrain
A rare optioned, original matching 454ci 4-barrel V8 engine backed
by a Turbo Hydra-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission, sits in an
unrestored engine bay.
Undercarriage
A very little smattering of surface rust is noted underneath,
otherwise it appears that it was at one point repainted black as
some dripping is noted. Frame, floor pans, rockers and toe kicks
are all super solid and structurally very sound. Power rear drum,
and power front disc brakes are seen from underneath.
A very much original car with a respray, and possibly an engine
cosmetic redux (although this cannot be verified) by the looks of
it compared to the engine bay. A rare option 454ci 4-barrel will
get you up to speed nicely, while the 3-speed transmission will
save you a little gas. An early survivor to the history of the
Monte, all wrapped up and ready to take on a retro vacation to the
Poconos, where you can rent a room with a champagne glass tub, and
shag carpeting...shagalicious artichoke green baby...Road
Trip!!
