Vehicle Description
Vintage trucks are extremely popular right now, and if this 1966
Chevrolet C10 is any indication, there's a bright future in
restored old haulers. From the bright green paint to the strong
running small block under the hood, this cool pickup nails the
original look and feel while offering a few choice upgrades. 1966
was the last year for the Fleetside pickups introduced in 1960,
which offered lower rooflines and a swept-back cab that offered
industry-leading space and comfort, making this beauty that much
more desirable.
Finished in bright green, this truck is a movie star. It's pretty
close to the truck's original Dark Green finish but has a much more
appealing look that's pure nostalgia. The Fleetside offered
dramatic styling with lots of swoops and curves, as well as
brilliant use of trim, and all of it remains intact on this hauler.
Other styling details include the wing-like lip at the back of the
cab, which has no real function but looks incredibly cool. Paint
and bodywork are done to a high standard, and this truck will be
right at home both at local shows and the local lumber yard on a
Saturday afternoon if you need some light hauling done. These were
well-made rugged machines from new, so it shouldn't be surprising
to find one this nice today, and very little bodywork seems to have
been required to get it ready for paint. All the original trim was
restored or replaced, from the massive front bumper and delicate
egg crate grille to the polished stainless along the sides that is
strongly reminiscent of the Impala SS trim from just a few years
earlier. But if you need it to work, it's ready, with a bed that's
still carrying a natural wood floor, although it's nice enough that
you just might reconsider.
Trucks were austere machines when they were new, and this one
doesn't vary much from the factory formula. The original bench was
recovered in an upscale, two-tone gold and gray leather pattern,
tying in perfectly with the handsome gold door panels, dash, and
painted roof. Padded dashes and door panels hadn't yet made it to
the truck lines, so they've been finished to t he same high
standards as the rest of the bodywork and the off-setting black
carpet is tidy and clean. The original gauges are a very cool setup
with a single face that certainly looks restored and remains in
great condition. A retro-style AM/FM/AUX stereo is another modern
convenience in the cab, but maybe not quite as sought-after as the
R134a A/C system installed underneath the dash. Nothing better than
filling the cab with hot tunes and cold air during a long
cruise.
When the truck was restored a few years ago, a 350 cubic inch V8
was nestled between the front fenders. As a restored truck,
function and style work together to form a very tidy engine bay
highlighted by the Chevy orange paint on the block, the finned
valve covers and matching air cleaner, and brightly polished chrome
A/C compressor. It runs beautifully, and all the accessories were
freshened, including the alternator, brake master cylinder, and the
big radiator up front. It starts easily thanks to an Edelbrock
4-barrel carburetor, and a rumble starts its journey through the
long-tube headers and feeds into the dual exhaust with
Flowmaster-style mufflers. A 700R4 automatic transmission spins the
big 12-bolt rear end, finishing off a drivetrain that is
bulletproof when properly maintained. The solid chassis is in great
shape and mostly stock, including the suspension and brakes, and
the overall cleanliness is evidence of a lifetime of dry climate
living. Rolling stock consists of flashy 20-inch Vision Legend
Series chrome wheels wearing 275/40/20 blackwall radials with
plenty of tread.
This is a great truck that can work all day and still clean up
nicely for a night out on the town. With a strong drivetrain and
rugged good looks, it' bound to garner plenty of attention anywhere
it goes. Call today!
