Vehicle Description
No one can argue with the timeless look of the first gen Camaro,
and the story of how it was introduced as the direct competitor to
the wildly successful Ford Mustang has been told numerous times
over. Their popularity today might be the strongest its ever been.
These cars have become a great platform to customize and make
incredible one-of-a-kind rides. However, this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro
is unique from all the other custom rides out there, because the
overall historic muscle car look is untouched, however, glance
underneath and you'll be shocked how much has been spent on this
ride to take it to the 2019 standard.
Let's start with the exterior, as mentioned, it stays true to form
and retains its original look. It's also not pretending to be
something it isn't. It doesn't have any fake SS or fake Z/28 badges
anywhere! Yep, this Camaro has the simple Chevy "bowties". The body
is clean, straight, and the red paint is vibrant but easy on the
eyes. Appropriately named "pull me over red", the deep red paint is
accented by a set of slick black stripes and Chevy rally wheels,
making this car a rolling icon of Americana. In a sea of SS clones,
this '68 is sure to stick out for the simple fact of being what it
is and nothing more. Of course, underneath the outer skin this
Camaro hides a few choice upgrades with the only the 383 fender
badges hinting at what is under the new cowl-induction hood.
Pop the hood, and you'll be greeted with a tastefully dressed up
small block Chevrolet 383 stroker V8 mated to a 700R4 overdrive
automatic transmission. Just the right amount of chrome accents
have been added without making it look completely out of place in
the bay. You'll notice mostly everything looks new, and that this
is pretty clearly a fairly fresh build that has been properly cared
for. Notable upgrades include billet pulleys, and aluminum
radiator, anodized fuel rail, MSD electronic ignition, and a
Vintage Air A/C system, electric fans, electric fuel pump, among
others. The engine, fresh off a rebuild has solid lifters and
creates close to 500hp, but thankfully the overdrive transmission
is present that allows it to cruise at highway speeds easily.
Underneath the car, you'll find an equal amount of performance
upgrades including drilled and slotted 4-wheel disc brakes, ceramic
brake pads, QA1 front tubular control arm suspension kit, QA 1
front sway bar and a Flaming River power rack & pinion steering
upgrade. At the back of the car, you'll see a new 12-bolt rear
housed by a Ridetech 4-link w/ adjustable Heim-joints and coil-over
shocks. A new full tank and new exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers
and Hedman headers finish off the underside.
The all-new interior retains a largely original appearance, much
like the outside, however some upgrades that are key for
comfortable drivability. While some key features are original GM
options, such as the Tic-Toc-Tach, other subtle features are modern
upgrades. The Vintage Air system previously mentioned is seamlessly
integrated with the original interior design, and to the untrained
eye, nothing looks changed. On a similar note, the radio is a
modern unit that looks original but functions as a newer unit.
Aside from speakers installed in the kick panels, the interior
retains its original look. Everything from the weather stripping,
glass, door panels, gauges, carpet, seat covers, dash etc... Is all
new and best of all, everything functions as it should.
The longer you look at it, the longer it becomes apparent that this
Camaro is more than just a nicely restored car-it is a subtle
resto-mod with lots of modern features! This car runs, drives, and
sounds great and is a turn-key car ready to hit the streets. If
you're looking for fun, this Camaro has you written all over
it!
