For Sale: 1980 MG MGB in Stratford, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

And a truly exceptional car.........just in,  prepared, ready for sale.

A one owner, 26,000 miles, always garaged, used sparingly, just about as perfect an original MGB we have ever seen.   Was repainted 30 years ago in deep BRG, still excellent, all original tan interior, even the original top is in excellent condition.   Didn't see the slightest spot of rust underneath, just to confirm...went over the body with a small magnet searching for plastic filler....none.

Perfect running, 150 psi compression in every cylinder, 65-70 psi oil pressure when warm, zero smoke, all of this isn't any different than the day it left the factory.   Checked the brakes, new pads and brake shoes, new rear wheel cylinders, no cracking on the flex lines, quiet exhaust, no cracks on the dash top, original tonneau cover......a near perfect original car.

However, we felt this B could use some improvement.   See, the later cars were far superior to earlier MGBs.....better electrical system, thorough rust proofing, bigger gauges, front AND rear sway bars, power assist disc brakes, far better cooling system, electronic ignition, in many ways, 35% Nissan, Honda, Toyota and 65% classic British sports car.   Not a bad combination for a fun, country road car with vintage style.

Work we just finished:   completely disassembled the front end, fitted new MGBGV8 bushings (better than stock), new lowered front springs (to bring the car down to pre 1975 ride height for superior handling), lowered rear ride height, all new splined hubs and chrome knock offs, wire wheels with 175/70 radials, removed all of the smog equipment, fitted a new 32/36DGV Weber (to replace the single Stromberg which provided gutless performance and a stingy 62.5hp) with electric choke, tubular race headers, a beautiful wood veneer dash, expensive wood steering wheel, modern stereo/CD with USB input, high quality speakers, and even installed new plastic windows in the like-new convertible top.  We lavished a lot of time, money, and effort on what began as a near perfect car.  All in all, we have greatly improved this beautiful MGB.

And while we often perform an elaborate chrome bumper conversion, with a good number in stock, we decided to do a different twist on this one....so we used a special prep solution that allowed us to paint the bumpers in body color (as the factory should have done).   Came out great.   And now, done, a really super MGB.   Far faster than stock, far better handling, much better looks, and all in a nearly as-new classic sports car, easy to service, reliable, incredibly plentiful and inexpensive parts, and a nice distinctive style that makes driving at legal speed limits.....fun.  And isn't that what this is all about?

(and for those in the North country, we can install a powerful supplemental heater, have one on each of my own MGBs and allows cozy comfortable use even when down to 20 degrees.  And to those in the South, we can install a modern and efficient a/c unit that works very well.  AND for those who wish to take their car North and South, the a/c units we use have a built in supplemental heater)

A car one can truly consider using as an alternative to a contemporary car.   Starts instantly (with help from the electric choke), runs flawlessly (helped by the new Weber carb, electronic ignition, and an engine with perfect compression), is fun to drive, economical, and really incapable of ever having a catastrophic mechanical problem.
