The Mopar B-body platform is responsible for so many great cars from the 1960’s.  Models like the Road Runner, GTX, Charger, and Superbird made their mark on the street as well as the track.  But not to be overlooked is the Dodge Coronet.  This 1965 model represents the first year of the B-body Coronet.  While it looks like something of a sleeper, it retains the unmistakable lines of a Mopar - along with a 440 cubic inch motor.

This Coronet 440 was a late 1965 build.  It has a nice, straight body that has seen one repaint in its factory white color.  The underside is remarkably solid with excellent floor pans and frame pieces.  Chrome, moldings, and emblems are all complete and in good condition.  The dog dish hub caps give it an unassuming look as well.

The factory slant-6 engine has been replaced with a much more potent 440 cubic inch setup, transforming the car from a basic grocery-getter to something much more impressive.  It has been further enhanced with a Melling 6-pack camshaft and Offenhauser intake along with 906 cylinder heads and an electronic ignition.  With 10:1 compression and hardened valve seats it will run fine on today’s premium unleaded gasoline.  The transmission is a Torqueflite 727 automatic, and the 8-3/4” rear end houses 3.23 gears.

The red interior appears all original and is in remarkable condition.  The bench front seat and radio delete continue the sleeper appearance.  The vinyl/cloth seat covers, door panels, and dash all look amazing.  The carpet and headliner show more age but remain presentable.  Note the underdash gauges for oil pressure and water temperature.  Everything works properly; wipers, horn, parking brake, heater, lights, etc.  There are also a factory spare tire and bumper jack in the trunk.

This Coronet 440 really is something of a time capsule with all the factory styling from 1965.  It offers a smooth ride with lots of power from the big 440.  And the underside shows it has been well cared for.  Whether you want to cruise down the highway, have some fun on a Saturday night, or build your next bracket racer, this one has a lot to offer.
