1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet - 37K Original Miles

Produced for just three model years, 1989-1991, the Porsche 944 S2
is among the rarest of the transaxle, water-cooled Porsche sports
cars. And with just 6,980 cabriolets built in all, the drop-top
version is special indeed.
The 944 S2 had the biggest four-cylinder production engine of its
time in terms of capacity, and was the first transaxle model
available both as a coup� and a convertible. Its naturally
aspirated 2,990cc powerplant, internally called M44/41, managed to
be both, torque-y and rev-happy, delivering 280 Nm of torque at
4,000 rpm, and 211 horsepower at 5,800 rpm, well short of the 6,400
rpm redline. This was achieved by significant engineering changes
to the standard 2.5-liter base 944 engine. A 16-valve cylinder
head, two overhead camshafts, a lighter crankcase, and forged
pistons were added to create a unique engine, close in performance
to earlier 944 turbo cars. Only the 944 S2 cars had this engine,
and all were fitted to a 5-speed manual transaxle. The remarkably
balanced handling resulting from near 50-50 front-rear
weight-distribution remains one of the distinctions of the Porsche
transaxle cars.
The 944 S2 offered here stands out with its rare combination of
black exterior paint, black fabric convertible top, and partial
leather upholstery and trim in "Linen." (The car's option sticker
does not disclose the color of the interior, but it is indicated on
the included original window sticker.) The resulting "ebony and
ivory" combination is very appealing The remaining option codes
show a nicely spec'd example, including the uncommon but desirable
electrically adjustable, well-bolstered sports seats, and air
conditioning. The full list:

The standard "Design 90" 16-inch diameter aluminum alloy wheels are
of staggered widths, 7" front, 8" in the rear. An upgraded
Nakamichi cd 400 audio head unit is present as the only
modification to the car. The model designation normally found on
the rear deck has been removed to suit owner preference, adding to
the overall stealthiness of the car (but these OE badges are
available online).
The overall condition of the car is excellent-plus indicating its
37k miles-just over 1,000 miles per year-were gently accumulated.
Wear indications are minimal, front to rear, top-to-bottom, inside
and out. Switchgear, carpeting, embroidered carpet floor mats,
fabric top, leather upholstery, wheels, tires, lenses, are all in
outstanding condition. A folder of maintenance receipts is
included. The car was just fitted with new rubber, timing belt and
tensioners, oil change, new brakes, new door sills, new Porsche
"944S2" floor mats, and Sport Seats. It is dialed in and turn-key
ready for its new home. The car came to us from a collector who
appreciates vintage performance, rarity, and classic sports-car
