Named after South Africa's Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, the Maserati
Kyalami was introduced in 1976 and was the first new Maserati
developed while the company was under the ownership of Alejandro de
Tomaso. Using the DeTomaso Longchamp as a Basis, Pietro Frua was
given the task of redesigning the car to give it a distinctively
Maserati personality. First shown at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show,
only 210 examples were built between 1976 and 1983.
An exceptionally early production example, Kyalami chassis no. 006
was originally finished in Celeste Chiaro over Senape leather, and
completed by the factory on 30 November 1976, Information provided
by Maserati Classiche confirms that the car remained in the Modena
area after delivery and was actually retained by the factory for
testing purposes and later owned by Alejandro de Tomaso himself.
Originally finished in Celeste Chiaro over Senape Connolly leather,
there is an additional factory notation that the car was fitted
with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox in July 1988.
After leaving its native Italy, the car was sold to the Netherlands
in 1993 and would remain there through 2007. In 2011, it was
purchased by the current owner and has been well preserved in his
collection amongst other Maseratis. Recent service work includes
€25.000 spent on a mechanical overhaul and some bodywork in 2015 by
Fa. Schiemenz in Bonn followed by another €20.000 spent on
overhauling the transmission on 2016.
Arguably one of the most compelling cars of the De Tomaso era, the
Kyalami is a fascinating part of Maserati's history, and this
example is even more interesting than the rest.

Der nach einer s�dafrikanischen Grand Prix-Rennstrecke benannte
Maserati Kyalami wurde 1976 vorgestellt und war das erste Auto der
Marke unter dem neuen Eigent�mer Alejandro de Tomaso. Pietro Frua
hatte den De Tomaso Longchamp mit einer eindeutigen Maserati-Optik
versehen. Vom auf dem Genfer Salon 1976 vorgestellten Kyalami
wurden zwischen 1976 und 1983 insgesamt 210 Exemplare
hergestellt.
Dieses �u�erst fr�he Produktionsexemplar mit der Chassisnummer 006
wurde neu in Celeste Chiaro mit Connolly-Leder im Farbton Senape
hergestellt, und verlie� das Werk am 30. November 1976.
Informationen von Maserati Classiche best�tigen, dass dieses
Fahrzeug nach der Auslieferung in der Region Modena verblieb und
vom Werk f�r Testzwecke genutzt wurde, sp�ter geh�rte es dem
damaligen Firmeneigner Alejandro de Tomaso selbst. Anhand weiterer
Werksangaben wurde dieser Wagen im Juli 1988 mit einer Borg
Warner-Automatik ausgestattet.
1993 wurde 006 in die Niederlande verkauft, wo er bis 2007
verbliebt. Der derzeitige Besitzer erwarb das Fahrzeug im Jahr 2011
und hat es in seiner Sammlung weiterer Maserati sehr gut erhalten.
K�rzlich durchgef�hrte Arbeiten in H�he von €25.000 f�r eine
mechanische �berholung sowie Karosseriearbeiten bei der Firma
Schiemen in Bonn wurden 2015 durchgef�hrt, gefolgt von weiteren
€20.000 f�r eine Getriebe�berholung in 2016.
Als einer der wohl wichtigsten Maseratis aus der �ra De Tomaso
stellt der Kyalami einen faszinierenden Teil der Markengeschichte
dar, und dieses Exemplar ist unter ihnen wohl das
interessanteste.
