European Motor Studio is excited to offer this highly original 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL 4.5 Sedan. Finished in a lovely factory color of Maple Yellow over its original Cognac MB Tex with matching carpets, this W108 left the production line in September of 1973 making it one of the very last W108 Sedan’s produced. After leaving the Stuttgart factory in September of 73, the car was invoiced to Mercedes of North America and then delivered to Palmer Import Motors in Long Beach California where the car sold new to its first owner on November 30, 1972. This 280SEL has lived in southern CA since day one and has been under the same ownership according the accompanying documentation since 1983. This lovely and very original 280SEL is sitting in its correct color combination of wearing an outstanding finish of Maple Yellow. The paint finish shows an excellent luster with very few imperfections with a few stone chips in the front nose. The body is in outstanding, untouched condition with excellent factory panel gaps and free from any rust or rot. All of the chrome looks excellent with one minor ding in the rear trim underneath the trunk key hole. All of the trim is in excellent condition showing very little signs of wear or age. The interior is all original showing very lite patina on the two front seats. All of the carpets are in outstanding condition aside from the original rubber mat showing some damage. All of the wood is in very nice original condition and the dash is very good aside from one crack next to the driver binnacle. The original headliner shows very well with minimal age. The 4.5 liter V8 engine is a pleasure to drive. It starts right up and does not smoke under start up or acceleration. The engine pulls incredibly strong and feels solid and smooth through the whole RPM range. The transmission shifts very well with no known issues. The suspension is nice and tight with no noises or sloppiness. The steering is very tight with no play and the brakes are solid with no fade or grinding. The undercarriage shows remarkably well. The car has lived in an excellent climate since day one and has been stored well. All of the electronics in the car are function as designed excellent the original Becker radio. All of the power windows are working and the vacuum door locks function as they should. Accompanying the sale of this SEL are the original owners books, original spare and jack and original registration cards dating back to the early 1980’s and original dealer service stampings.
