Previous Owner History: On July 31, 1969, Beth Caver made the drive from Odessa to Dallas, Texas where she took delivery of this Gulfstream Aqua Shelby GT350. It is fitted with white vinyl high-back bucket seats and all the amenities of the day such as basic AM radio, air-conditioning, Swing-Away Tilt steering column, special alloy mag-type wheels, and the space-saver spare tire. Ms. Caver kept her Shelby until November 1977 when another Odessa girl, Kathleen Thompson purchased the car and held on to it for many more years. This all original, low mileage vehicle has had one repaint in its original color of Gulf Stream Aqua and retains all the components that made it a Shelby GT350. These include the special grill, unique badging and a stance that really means business. With an arrow straight body and panel fit that looks like it came off the assembly line yesterday, this is a car that belongs in a collection of the finest performance vehicles ever produced.

The ’69 Shelby Mustangs ditched the Cobra label from their name, and just like in ’66, they were simply referred to as Shelby GT350s.

Planning for the 1969 Shelby model year began around late May of 1968, when Shelby Automotive management sat down and generated a shopping list of 1969 Shelby options. “Nice-to-haves” were proposed for various areas of the car such as the options found on this Shelby; Tilt-A-Way Steering Column, SelectAire and many others.

Carroll Shelby was still actively involved in the design and manufacturing of this ’69 model, and a combination of slower sales and creative differences caused the Shelby-Ford partnership to end in the summer of 1969. Making these early ’69 Shelby GT350’s a treasured part of the true 1960’s Shelby History.

1969 Shelby GT350 When Lee Iaccoca first approached Carroll Shelby about creating a special performance version of Ford’s new sport compact, the Mustang, the main concerns were on getting the best handling possible out of the car, as well as highest output for the engines. Cosmetic changes were mainly functional. While the 1967 and 1968 Shelby Mustangs still retained most of their Ford heritage, for 1969, that would change. These would be the last of the Mustang based Shelby cars for many years to come, and they featured exclusive front sheet metal as well as a tuned suspension and high performance. Elongated fenders and a hood that formed a wide-oval intake gave these cars an aggressive face that fit right in with the muscle-car wars of the day. In total, just 1,085 fastback coupes were released for the 1969 model year in the GT350 series.
