Vehicle Description
This 1974 Volkswagen Thing Acapulco Edition has 82,300 original
miles (the title reads mileage exempt). It was completely restored
in 2010 and driven 1,500 miles since its completion. It retains its
original rust-free floor pans, which were painted inside and out,
and its original front beam. The Thing is equipped with new front
and rear drum brakes and master cylinder, new German ball joints,
tie rods and steering dampener, and new rear CV axles and bearings.
The original engine was rebuilt in 2013 and is the correct stock
1600cc dual-port, equipped with new cylinders and pistons, new VW
of Mexico heads, 1973 VW Thing fan shroud, new alternator upgrade,
new fuel pump, new electronic ignition and coil upgrade and new
sport dual exhaust. The exterior and interior were completely
stripped and painted the original Acapulco Edition base color,
Blizzard White, with a new Thing Shop black vinyl top and frame.
The exterior features new door hood and engine lid rubber, restored
stock bumpers with brush bar and Hella fog lights, restored
original running boards, and stock Thing 14" steel rims
powder-coated in their original silver with large logo chrome
hubcaps. The interior features new original-style black vinyl
upholstering in both the front and back, new windshield glass and
rubber, and four original side curtain door windows. Additional
accessories include optional glove box door and radio panel,
AM/FM/CD/USB radio, four speakers, dual-mount antenna, Lecarra
sport black-leather-wrapped steering wheel, Empi 4-speed shifter,
duck boards, bamboo storage tray and a battery cut-off switch. This
VW Thing runs and drives well.
