For Sale: 1963 Porsche 356 in Huntington Station, New York

Vehicle Description

1963 PORSCHE 356B CARRERA 2 SUNROOF COUPE
--Oslo Blue with Light Brown interior and Corduroy seats, Tan German Square Weave carpeting, Restored with limited mileage since, 2.0 liter 587/1 4-cam engine, 4-Speed manual gearbox, Rare Factory Electric Sunroof, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and Factory Kardex.

At the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1961, Porsche announced the new T-6 body style for the 356 model. Updates included larger windows, a new engine cover with dual grilles, a bigger front hood, a revised fuel tank, enhanced luggage capacity, a new dash with standard clock, variable speed wipers, better seat adjustments, door armrest, and a day/night rearview mirror. Porsche also introduced the optional electric sliding sunroof. Visually very similar to the 356s on which they are based, Carreras offered Porsche customers sporting but comfortable accommodations with performance-oriented gear ratios and most importantly, special engines. Carrera 2s are not only very rare, but very special having the two liter, four-cam GS engine pushing 130 bhp. The Carrera 2 also came equipped with independent front suspension with torsion bars, anti-roll bar, trailing arms and telescopic shock absorbers, independent swing axle rear suspension with torsion bars and telescopic shock absorbers, and disc brakes.

Originally delivered new in Hanover, Germany, this Carrera 2 came to the United States in 1966 when it was sold by a Volkswagen dealer to its second owner, Arthur Foyt, an active Porsche Club member. In 1971 it was purchased by Eugene Deutsch, who brought the car to Boston in 1995. When sold to its next and most recent ownership this Carrera 2 was restored over a seven-year period between 1998 and 2005. It was stripped to bare metal and repainted, the interior was redone by Paterek Brothers in New Jersey. This Carrera 2 enjoys a period-correct type-587/1 engine, which was rebuilt by four-cam expert Bill Doyle of Rennwagen Motor Company in Costa Mesa, California. In addition, the Carrera 2 has been fitted with 356 C-style four-wheel disc brakes for enhanced performance.

As one of 310 produced, this Carrera 2 is finished in its original color combination and as originally optioned with the rare factory electric sunroof, electric antenna, dual speakers, chrome wheels, wood steering wheel, and a lowered driver’s seat for additional comfort for taller drivers. The body, paint, and interior are in excellent condition and it has been extremely well-maintained regardless of use in its most recent collector ownership. It is complete with both its Kardex, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as well as documentation, including repair receipts dating to 1966, owner’s manual, Carrera supplement, radio instruction book, and the original battery warranty. This rare sunroof Oslo Blue Carrera 2 is ready for immediate use and dependable enjoyment and is an excellent opportunity to acquire a restored 356B with desirable options for the 356 enthusiast and collector alike.
