For Sale: 1967 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper in Marietta, Georgia

Vehicle Description

1967 Volkswagen Split screen Westfalia SO42 Camper

A genuine SO42 Westfalia Split Screen Camper, the only conversion that could be ordered from the Wolfsburg factory. This model is highly sought after, particularly with it being the rarer walk through model with the turret pop top. It is super clean and thoroughly decked out. The body panels are remarkably straight and very nice and still posses all of the original doors, decklid, hatch, apron and pointed end bumpers. All metal appears to be all original with no replacement panels. All five original jalousie windows are present and in great working order. The interior is fitted with original cabinetry to the SO42, complete with the rock and roll bed. The pop top is in great condition, it works well, has its black out covers and has the correct rubber secures.

The 1967 is very a desirable year by collectors due to the factory 12 volt electrical system and the very trustworthy/roadworthy running gear combo of a 1500 single port engine, a "Big Nut" reduction box trans-axle that is often referred to as a "freeway flier" due to the preferred gear ratio, a front sway bar, and a factory dual circuit braking system as well. The 1967 model year saw all of the accumulated refinements that Volkswagen incorporated to make them essentially the most comfortable and roadworthy of all of the Split Windshield Bus years. The engine has been upgraded to a 1550cc, however the original 1500 engine with goes with the vehicle. The engine is very reliable, starts right up and runs very well with no issues. The steering feels tight, and the doors open & close with no sag or drag.

The list of features and accessories include; the child's cot, the accessory cab step, the rarely seen original radio delete plate still in place and loads of period items throughout. The camper also has a electrical hook up connection. Front and rear period seat belts have been fitted for added safety. The SO42 Westfalia interior is in excellent shape and is unusually nice, with the original cab interior panels, other original details include 1967 "paddle" style inner cab door handles, original black vent wing window latches, and the nice original steering wheel. The condition of this Westy shows it has had gentle life over the last 52 years and has not been abused. The front seat has been reupholstered and a look beneath the floor mat shows a solid floor.

This is a genuine German built North American spec, SO42 Westfalia camper, see serial number tag and trim tag.

Mechanically this Bus is fully turnkey, ready to enjoy and be driven regularly. It starts right up, idles beautifully, drives very well with good power and it runs and drives as nice as it looks. Please note the exceptional cleanliness of the engine compartment and engine. The undercarriage is a little dirty, has a couple mud daubers homes and a couple of undercoating peels, all from use or storage. This Westfalia is ready for fun and camping excitement, are you.
