Now this is a true survivor, having survived 30 years of faithful service to the same family. This 1988 Toyota 60 Series Land Cruiser was finally allowed to leave the garage of its original owner, certainly a difficult but deemed necessary life event.
This FJ 62 is unmodified and unmolested. It has all its original sheet metal and still sports its original Royal Blue paint, a condition supported by its clean Carfax report. The exterior was professionally buffed and polished and a few of the dings have been massaged away. It is not however without a few nicks and scrapes accumulated over the years. The interior especially bore the scars of an active family lifestyle and as such was thoroughly refreshed to make ready for a new owner. New carpet, seat covers, dash cap and a good cleaning has the old girl looking marvelous inside.
This Land Cruiser is powered by the legendary 3F-E 4.0 liter inline six gasoline engine. The '88 model year was the first to equip it with electronic fuel injection. This sturdy powerplant is coupled to a 4-speed automatic transmission which in turn is coupled to a 3-speed transfer case and locking hubs.
Mechanically this truck is in very good condition. It has been thoroughly inspected and where necessary serviced which included front end parts, new shocks, BF Goodrich All Terrain tires and a tune up. It starts right up and holds idle. It has good power and shifts smoothly up and down. Steering has good feel and brakes are spot on. Everything is in working order.
This is not a restored show truck, but it presents extremely well, runs great and although it is by no means quick nor does it handle like a new Land Cruiser it is up for daily driving and will keep up on the interstate without any drama. And of course, when called upon it can hold its own off road with the best of them.
The 60 Series Land Cruiser was built between 1980 and 1989 and was upgraded from the FJ55 with creature comforts to better compete with the likes of the Range Rover and Jeep Grand Wagoneer, proving to exceed either of those in terms of quality and reliability. These handsome trucks are now considered classics and like many '80's Japanese cars and trucks have seen steady appreciation, with some examples selling for well into the $30k's. Buy this truck, take care of it and it will never lose value.
