Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL
Sunliner. Finished in correct-to-the-trim-tag raven black with a
white convertible top over a red interior, it's a striking
combination that never fails to turn heads. This is an unusually
well-equipped example, with a 390 cubic inch V8, automatic
transmission, power steering, power top, bucket seats and center
console with floor shifter. The car presents overall as an original
survivor / driver. Body panels are straight with good gaps and the
raven black paint has a nice shine; bumpers, trim and chrome show a
light, but not objectionable, patina. Grille is excellent.
Interior is believed to be all original; there is some wear showing
on the tops of the front bucket seats but otherwise carpets, door
panels, dash, gauges, etc. have held up well (see photos for
details). It's rare to find a '62 Galaxie with bucket seats and a
console / floor shifter, and we love it. All of the gauges and
lights (including instrument lights, courtesy lights and exterior
lights) are working, the sun visors are intact, dash is nice and
the windows roll up and down easily. Original AM radio in the dash
works. The power convertible top is in good condition and functions
normally. New-in-box seat belts, in red, accompany the car.
Under the hood is Ford's 390 cubic inch "Thunderbird" V8; equipped
with a four-barrel carburetor and dual exahust, it was rated by the
factory at 300 hp and still feels potent today. It's mated to a
three-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission. This Galaxie starts, runs,
shifts and drives well. Completely stock engine compartment and
drivetrain aside from an upgraded aluminum radiator and Petronix
electronic ignition. Although the manual drum brakes are in good
working condition and stop the car just fine, a brand new brake
booster and dual-circuit master cylinder are included with the sale
should the next owner wish to upgrade to power brakes.
