Vehicle Description
This 1988 Ford Mustang GT Convertible looks as if it were
teleported in time directly from its late '80s origin to the
present. It really looks sharp and remains in period correct
configuration, so it's one seriously authentic representative of
the Mustang's third generation. On top of that it's running great,
so there'll be no need to restrict your enjoyment to brief weekend
outings - it's very much up to the challenges of frequent
driving.
It's simply a great looking vintage ride. Its white paint is
original - not just the color but the actual paint - and it
presents very well with a nice shine, and the contrasting trim that
encircles the body is still sharp. All of the badging it began life
with is present and in good form and the black trim framing the
windshield, as well as the side mirrors, still has its deep black
color. By virtue of its GT status, it wears an aero package to
equip it with an enhanced front fascia and stylish yet subtle
ground effects with scoops in front of the wheels in both front and
back. The exterior alignment looks nice and precise - the body
panels blend together well and the doors, hood and deck lid all
open and close smoothly. That luggage rack sitting over the deck
lid in back reinforces the notion that this Pony is ready to hit
the road and provide future memories of open air driving fun.
Should the skies darken during that time, there's a power white
convertible top standing by underneath its well-fitted boot to
levitate into place for protection and it sports a clear glass rear
window, so it's resistant to UV exposure and unlikely to fade
anytime soon.
The white interior has withstood the years well. The tall white
bucket seats up front and bench seat in back don't show much wear
at all nor the marked discoloration you often see in white
upholstery. Just as with the exterior, everything inside has been
faithfully kept in its factory configuration and has obviously been
carefully sheltered during its lifetime. The dash area is clean and
straight, with the factory gauges in its instrument cluster all
functioning just as intended and an AM/FM/Cassette ready to provide
its era-appropriate technology to your audio experience. This GT
came along at a time when air conditioning was becoming a bit more
common in convertibles - it's plumbed and equipped and will need
just a simple freon charge to get it back online. Additional
comfort features include a tilting column and power windows and
door locks.
That same strict adherence to stock configuration - with just one
welcome exception - carries through under the hood, where an
electronically fuel injected 5.0 liter V8 resides to power this
drop top. The engine starts right up and is running very smoothly
and now exhales into a pair of headers to reduce backpressure - a
nice upgrade that pays dividends in the form of increased
acceleration. The featured 4 speed automatic transmission is also
period correct and shifts smoothly, with its overdrive gear coming
in very handy to keep RPMs nice and low at highway speeds. Both
power steering and power brakes are also on board, so navigating
and stopping comes easy when this classic convertible takes to the
asphalt on its set of 16" Pony wheels outfitted with Fuzion
tires.
You don't find many cars of its era sporting such a vital, fresh
appearance - and its sheer authenticity and smooth running power
make this 1988 Ford Mustang GT Convertible an even rarer find. Call
