Vehicle Description
How often do you get a crack at one of the most beloved classics
ever to roll off an assembly line, let alone one that's in the
rock-solid running condition of this 1957 Ford Thunderbird? It
features a strong V8 under its scooped hood that combines with a
very nicely restored interior to make for a great driving
experience.
<BR
With a very distinctive maroon metallic shade draped over its
almost universally recognized form, this vintage cruiser cuts a
head turning appearance just as it is - this is a coveted
first-generation T-Bird, after all. The dark color is in solid
condition from front to back, so you'll get plenty of admiring nods
as soon as you get it home, and with some well-focused attention
this classic would definitely make an impact on the local car show
circuit. As a '57, it represents the final year that Thunderbirds
retained their two seater configuration - they rolled out in a
considerably larger form the following year. The exterior features
a number of great stylistic touches - the subtle hood scoop with
its chrome trimmed front, the gill-like vents on its front fenders
and intricate front grille are just a few. Should you find yourself
behind the wheel when the skies darken, you'll have a couple of
options for shelter at your disposal - a well-fitted vinyl
convertible top that matches the rest of the exterior, as well as a
hardshell white accessory top with portholes on its sides.
The interior offers a lot to like. It's been restored while
remaining almost entirely in stock configuration. The white vinyl
bench seat, as well as the door panels to each side, look great and
you'll find very clean black carpeting lining the floor below you.
Below that carpeting sits an ample layer of Dynamat to insulate
against road noise and heat to make for a very comfortable vintage
cockpit. Thunderbirds of this era featured a great use of textured
chrome accenting that began on the dash area and extended the
lengths of the doors and the example here is in fine form. The fan
shaped instrument cluster behind the original steering wheel now
includes Autometer gauges to keep a read on oil temperature and
RPMs, with an additional three gauge cluster located just below. A
Town and Country retro-style stereo with USB connectivity has been
added to the center of the dash to provide plenty of audio options.
You'll find a full size spare sitting in its proper vertical
position in the trunk, with a fresh looking rubber seal in place
below the deck lid to keep the elements from intruding.
In addition to its great looks and substantial heritage, this
Thunderbird happens to be a great driver as well. There's a 302
cubic inch Jasper crate motor residing in the engine compartment,
equipped with a 4 barrel Edelbrock carb and a Summit aluminum
intake manifold to maximize its output. It's running strong and
smooth and with the added Flamethrower ignition, there's plenty of
spark at its disposal. The engine sits surrounded by fresh-looking
components, a number of which are decked out in black for added eye
candy, and pairs with a 3-speed automatic C6 transmission. Farther
forward is a sizable, custom built aluminum radiator that teams
with an electric fan to keep temperatures down in more demanding
driving conditions. Upgraded power brakes that include disks up
front bring low-effort stops, while power steering makes this
classic easy to handle. A set of 14" steel wheels with
vintage-looking Ford hubcaps complete the overall look.
This 1957 Ford Thunderbird represents the model at its compact,
nostalgia inducing best, and it's ready for action just as soon as
you get it home. Call today!
