For Sale: 1963 Ford Thunderbird in Macedonia, Ohio

Vehicle Description

28,656 original miles. One repaint, gorgeous original interior, extensive recent service. Ice cold A/C, upgraded stereo, power windows. An inexpensive hobby car that is also extremely high quality.

Showing what we strongly believe to be 28,656 original miles, this beautiful code G Silver Mink (yes, that's actually Ford's name for this color) T-Bird absolutely feels like a high-end luxury cruiser. Repainted a few years ago, it looks far better than any car at this price should, with laser-straight sheetmetal and zero signs of previous accident or rust damage. You'll note that the body gaps are excellent, with doors that swing closed with a satisfying THUNK, fender skirts that fit neatly with no signs of rust issues in the wheel arch (a common issue on these cars), and the contrasting white top softens the look just a little. The chrome shines up beautifully with almost no signs of age aside from some light scratches on the bumpers that could probably be polished out. The only other notable sign of age is that the turquoise inlays on the Thunderbird emblems on the sail panels are faded, but otherwise everything is quite nice for being nearly 60 years old.

All signs point to the black bucket seat interior being almost entirely original, which surely helps bolster the low mileage claim. The carpets have been replaced, but it appears that the seat covers, door panels, headliner, and dash pad are all original items installed in 1963. Both seats are firm and comfortable, not soft and saggy, and the back seat looks virtually new. The gauges are all fully operational and have bright markings and clear lenses, and all the chrome knobs are in excellent shape. Everything works, including the A/C, which uses modern components working behind the scenes to make it especially effective. There's a newer digital AM/FM/cassette stereo in the original radio's slot, but by using factory-style knobs it blends right in and the original AM radio is included with the car. Seat belts were added at some point and look like they were born with the car, and Thunderbird logo floor mats help keep it tidy. The trunk wears a new mat set with custom embroidery on the spare tire cover and the original jack set still lives in its spot in the passenger-side quarter panel.

The only engine you could get in your 1963 Thunderbird was a 390 cubic inch V8, with this one being the Z-code 4-barrel version with 300 horsepower on tap. With under 29,000 miles on the clock, it runs superbly with that effortless flow of smooth torque that you'd expect from Ford's flagship. It starts quickly and easily and idles with an awesome V8 burble from the fresh dual exhaust system, so you'll look forward to driving it every chance you get. The engine bay has been recently detailed with gold tinwork plus a reproduction decal on the air cleaner assembly. You can see the all-new A/C system and both power steering and power brakes were standard equipment. That's original paint on the inner fenders, so you can just how clean this car really is. If you want a hobby car that offers zero compromises in terms of performance and comfort, the Thunderbird is a fantastic choice.

The undercarriage is quite original and in excellent condition. It was treated to a light dusting of undercoating but it hides nothing and showcases the rock solid uni-body tub with no signs of rot or structural damage. The Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission shifts properly (use the green dot position for best performance!) and there are 3.00 gears in back, making this a great highway cruiser that can hang with modern traffic easily. The brakes have been recently serviced, including new wheel cylinders and hoses, the front end was rebuilt, and the Flowmaster mufflers give it a most excellent soundtrack. There are also newer shocks and fresh 205/75/14 General whitewall radials that give it that luxury car ride.

This car is accompanied by quite a bit of documentation that backs up the mileage claims, plus a cache of parts that includes a starter, weather seals, the aforementioned AM radio, wire wheel covers, and a few other parts. A few manuals are included as well.

Between the low mileage, attractive color combination, and excellent maintenance, this hardtop is 100% ready to enjoy and definitely delivers on the Thunderbird's promise of sporty luxury. One drive and you'll be convinced, and if the current trend continues, this 'Bird might also turn out to be a smart investment. Call today!
