Vehicle Description
Beautifully restored Mark II with just 71,000 original miles! Very
solid example selling new out of Monterey, California in Black over
gorgeous Deep Red interior! Fitted with dealer-installed air
conditioning, and all other factory options that made these
luxurious automobiles so special! Quoted in original Lincoln
advertising For the man who knows the secret of being
inconspicuously important! Lincolns spiritual successor to the
esteemed pre/post-war V12 Continental was the Mark II. In an effort
to branch off the Continental brand and take it upmarket, the car
wore Lincoln badging but no LINCOLN script. Instead, the car
featured almost every luxury feature imaginable as standard
equipment, with only one option: air conditioning. Under the hood
was a powerful 368ci version of Fords Y-Block mated to a smooth
Turbo-Drive three-speed automatic. Base price of these hand-built
cars was around $10,000, which restricted admission into this
exclusive Mark II club to only the wealthiest individuals,
including Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and the Shah of
Iran. It is estimated that around 3,000 cars were built over its
two-year production run, of which only half are thought to exist
still today! We are very excited to offer this 1956 Continental
Mark II! The car is finished in its factory correct color of 01
Black over newly refinished Deep Red Leather interior upholstery
and powered by its original 368ci V8 engine and Turbo-Drive
automatic! Features on this car are abundant and include power
steering, powerbrakes, tinted power-lift windows, power vent
windows, 4-way power seat& power antenna; dual zone heating,
Travel-Tuner AM radio with dual speakers, electric clock, engine
dress-up kit and fully carpeted trunk. This car was not originally
fitted with the only available option, air conditioning, but was
later fitted with a period system with rear vents on the package
tray! It has been recently serviced and continues to blow cold
today. The car rides on newer 235/75R15 Coker Classic wide
whitewall radial tires! This gorgeous Mark II was previously
restored in approximately 2000/2001 that included a bare metal
repaint while in Clearwater, FL while in the care of Lincoln Land,
Inc. The fully reupholstered interior is remarkable with the
leather being sourced from the original Scottish leather firm
Bridge of Weir! Lincoln Land also rebuilt the treadle vac system
along with new vacuum hoses, installed new front & rear brake shoes
& brake cylinders, front brake hoses, new power steering hoses,
complete ignition tune up, and an engine oil change. The odometer
reading at that time was 68,363 miles. Since this service, it has
been meticulously maintained and always garaged while in a
Germantown, TN collection! The transmission received a complete
overhaul in July 2003 at 71,046 miles by AAMCO Transmissions with
new torque convertor. Mechanically, the car runs down the road
beautifully, smooth and powerful. More recently out of the Fort
Worth, Texas area from 2004-2017, the car received newer whitewall
radial tires, shocks at all four corners, and rebuilt fuel pump. The
AC system was completely gone through by us to ensure
functionality. This Mark II now shows what is believed to be 71,688
actual miles, and traveled to the southern Missouri area to join a
prominent, local collection. All power features continue to work
including seat & window operation. The vacuum powered radio antenna
in presently inoperable, although the original AM radio was rebuilt
by Antique Auto Radio with modern internal FM frequency and works
wonderfully. Included is a spare tire with cover, jack equipment,
owners manual, care instruction booklet, printed online articles
regarding Mark II specs, and vintage advertisement posters. Astute
collectors take note! We would invite any interested parties to
call with additional questions! Thanks for looking!
