For Sale: 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in Lavergne, Tennessee

Vehicle Description

This 1970 Monte Carlo SS is a very special car on multiple levels. It was the first year the LS5 454 was offered by Chevrolet, and it was the most powerful one ever produced due to tightening emissions standards through the remainder of the 70's. Monte Carlos would of course go on to win countless races and become NASCAR legends. However, this first year car, before all the NASCAR fame, was sold in very limited numbers with only 3,823 produced. That makes this original and correct, numbers matching example, a very collectable car. Check it out.

Possibly with a bit of foreshadowing, this Monte Carlo looks like a Stock Car with its wide stance, bulging fenders and minimal trim. It is presented in its factory original, code 48G, Forest Green with a Green vinyl roof. The body is all stock, nice and straight, with a good shine to the paint. A chrome grill leads the way with a with a Monte Carlo badge in the center which is underlined by a simple bumper. Chrome dresses out the wheel well openings and there is a bold band of it running along the rocker panel with a discreet SS 454 designation appearing near the front. The bulging fenders front and rear make the car look like its flexing its muscles, and the vinyl roof is a really good look on this car. The back of the car has vertical taillights with another simple and clean bumper. It has a couple oval exhaust tips peeking out from underneath it and another discreet SS badge under Monte Carlo in script just above it.

Open the door and you will find a super sharp looking, neat and clean, Dark Green interior. The door panel sets the tone with a with thin chrome piping running along the top and bottom as well as outlining the armrest. Moving inside, a wood rimmed steering wheel is mounted on a three-spoke hub and tilt column. Behind it you will find a factory tachometer along with the speedo and engine gauges set into a wood toned dash panel. Off toward the right is a precious reminder of 1970 with the original 8-Track tape player still mounted in the dash. Ventilation controls include those for the A/C system to keep you cool on hot summer days. Between the vertically pleated front bucket seats is a center console, also trimmed in wood, with a horseshoe shifter for the automatic transmission. A tight headliner and clean carpeting protected by Monte Carlo SS floor mats complete the picture of this good looking interior.

Open the hood and you will find that precious LS5, 454 cubic inch motor nestled down in a spotlessly neat and clean engine bay. It is a numbers matching engine with a decal on the air filter housing announcing it as a 454 Turbo-Jet 360 HP. The Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor is also correct and feeds stock intake and heads. The factory A/C compressor is obvious sitting up top and just next to it is a rare feature that was an option on 1970 and '71 Monte Carlos, but standard equipment with the SS package, a reservoir for the Superlift rear shock absorbers. Also, part of the SS package is an F41 suspension with heavy-duty shocks and springs, additional frame stiffeners, boxed lower rear control arms, an upgraded front roll bar and a rear roll bar too. Power front disc brakes provide good stopping ability and the rubber meets the road through 225/70R15s mounted on steel wheels with polished trim rings.

Rare, completely stock, and spotlessly clean with the most powerful 454 to ever be offered from the factory in a street car. If you appreciate originality, and would like to own a piece of Chevrolet high performance history, then come on down and check out this.
