For Sale at Auction: 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air in Allen, Texas

Vehicle Description

Owned by Tom Souter of the show The Car Chasers since 1968. 2 owner.

Every so often, a car comes along on the market that is truly one-of-a-kind. This is definitely one of those cars. The 57 Chevy is one of the most popular cars in the world. One reason is that General Motors executives wanted an entirely new car for 1957, but production delays necessitated the 1955–56 design for one more year. Ed Cole chief engineer for Chevrolet, dictated a series of changes that significantly increased the cost of the car and made it a one year one of a kind.

There are many 57’s on the market, but there are none like Tom Souter’s. Rick Duncan, President of Duncan’s Auctions and organizer of The North Texas Classic Car Show & Auction said “I didn’t know what to expect when I arrived to meet with Tom and review this car. Many times questions arise in certain areas whether it be paint, engine, bodywork or other restoration issues and any car guy knows that the more you look at a classic car, the more imperfections you find, but this is one of those rare times that the more I viewed this car, the nicer it looked. From the slick black paint to the beautifully done interior, I could find no flaws. Everyone knows that if there is any shabby bodywork performed, black will not only show it, but accentuate it. The more I looked down the sides of this car the straighter it looked. While driving down the road the hood was as straight as an arrow. It is also very difficult in Restorods to maintain the integrity of the character of the car that is being preserved. Tom’s eye to detail and maintaining originality, while creating a superior masterpiece with dominating originality that you can drive with newer technology is at the utmost perfection. While driving in this piece of artwork, it looks like an original 57 Chevy, it still has the feel, but as far as front end, rear end, steering, brakes, AC and suspension, you are actually cruising with the most advanced technology. If your a fan of the 57 Chevy and want one of the nicest that exist in the world, don’t miss this one on March 9 at our Allen, Texas auction. I guarantee when you lay eyes on this one, you won’t be disappointed.”

Tom Souter purchased this car in December 1968 from the original owner with 42,000 miles. Overall the car doesn’t have over 20,000 more miles since that purchase to present date.

The 1st restoration was started in 1968. Tom retired the car in 1971 and took everything off of the car, painted it black and put black seats in it, then in 2010 the car was given the current restoration.
