Vehicle Description
STK 2551 1937 Dodge Westchester Suburban Woodie Wagon
This is a very rare 1937 Dodge Westchester 'Woodie' Suburban. There
were reportedly less than 500 of these wagons produced in 1937 and
the fact that our Dodge has virtually all of the original body wood
and a factory third seat makes this Westchester Suburban a classic.
The current North Carolina owner has been the caretaker of this
Dodge for the last 45 years. It has been partially restored and is
a very original, very complete example of a 'Woodie'. The 4-door
'Woodie' body is amazing. Wood panels have been carefully preserved
or refinished and a new exterior top liner was installed with
material from the vintage restoration firm LaBaron Bonney Company.
Window glass is original with a little patina (fogging/bubbles) and
new seals. Panel fit is excellent and the metal body components
were refinished in 2012 with Nason Super Black Single Stage
restoration paint. The interior was also refreshed in 2012. Tan
vinyl upholstery is in very good condition as are the dashboard,
steering wheel and all working gauges. Our Westchester is also
equipped with the rare heater option - 1937 'Climate Control'.
Original natural wood interior door panels have been refinished,
the wooden 'headliner' is stunning and the three bench seats can be
moved into various configurations. Our owner is all but certain
that the entire drivetrain is original. The model T-38 218ci
flathead-six, rated at 87bhp, was completely rebuilt in 1976 and
sounds amazing. It is backed by a 3-speed 'Selective Sliding'
manual gearbox with column shift. New transmission input shaft
bearings and rear seals have been installed. The solid chassis was
cleaned and refinished in Satin Black. It carries 4-wheel hydraulic
drum brakes (rebuilt 2006), a restored gas tank, new shocks and
stock rear 'hypoid' differential with new seals. The original
6-volt DC-generator electrical system is fully functional.
Firestone 6.50x16 bias-ply whitewall tires are mounted on the
factory steel wheels with center hubcaps. The overall original
condition and level of detail on this car make it a very desirable
Dodge Suburban. It is more than ready for your next hometown parade
or cruise-in and will certainly claim 'Best Vintage SUV' honors.
