Vehicle Description
When your goal is to own a world-class muscle car, there can't be
any asterisks on the spec sheet. That's why the restorer of this
striking Poncho, Jim Mattison, Founder of Pontiac Historic
Services, started his build with a documented Firebird 400. A
performer from day one, this coveted pony car is the beneficiary of
a detailed, body-off restoration that transformed it from a solid
survivor into a natioanl award-winning show stopper. Today, the car
rolls as a timeless, attention-grabbing classic that's ready to
pound pavement and drop jaws!
Dressed in sublime Mayfair Maize pigment, this coupe's current
condition is the product of hours of meticulous labor that was
completed by Mike Flaherty of Custom Designs LTD. The car's
straight, all-original sheetmetal was completely disassembled,
completely stripped and bathed in high quality 2-stage. And that
smooth finish was, after being buffed to a mirror-like shine,
trimmed in a roster of fresh brightwork and correct details.
Motivation is provided by an original Pontiac 400 that's been
professionally rebuilt and lovingly polished. That raucous mill is
covered in traditional Turquoise skin and centered between smooth,
Satin Black fenders. And everything, from the car's chrome valve
covers to its stamped steel oil pan, looks good and functions
great.
Behind that pan, a correct Turbo-Hydramatic 400 twists power
through a correct 10-bolt axle that's finished with correct 3.08
gears. That first class drivetrain hangs in a fully restored
suspension, which benefits from factory power steering and power
front disc and rear drum brakes. And at the corners of the car,
stainless-trimmed Rally IIs spin Firestone Wide Oval redlines
around red-tinged PMD center caps.
Open this coupe's doors and you'll find nostalgic Detroit styling
that's wrapped in subdued Black vinyl. Restored bench and bucket
seats sport freshly pleated covers that, judging by their
appearance, enjoyed very little road time. The vintage aura
continues onto the dashboard, which offers a pleasant layout of
analog gauges. And in front of the driver, a Deluxe Steering Wheel
spins familiar satin spokes around a traditional teal button.
It's hard to imagine the automotive world without Pontiac. For over
90 years, America's original muscle car division has been admired
by racers and purists alike. With a strong restoration, excellent
pedigree and nearly universal appeal, this razor-sharp coupe sets
the bar for investment grade collector cars. We'd like to thank the
car's happy new owner for choosing RK Motors Charlotte for all his
octane-fueled needs. Here's to many trophies, many years and many
more miles behind the wheel of classic American muscle!
