Vehicle Description
The classic first generation Mustang is undoubtedly one of the most
influential cars ever to roll off an assembly line - after all, how
many other models gave rise to an entirely new automotive niche?
The Mustang did that and more, setting new sales records, inspiring
the term "pony car" and leaving the '60s era competition in
catch-up mode. This 1968 Ford Mustang is a fine representative of
that special lineage, sporting both a very appealing exterior color
and a smooth running powerplant under its hood.
After a couple of years of offering their prized model to an
enthusiastic buying public, Ford did a slight retooling a year
before this '68 rolled out, increasing the car's length and
broadening it just a bit to accommodate big blocks. The result is a
classic that looks just a bit more muscular than its predecessors,
while keeping all that original appeal very much intact. The Tahoe
Turquoise color on display here will catch your eye right away -
it's a nice fit for the car and carries a strong shine that really
comes alive in the sunlight. The front grille appears to have been
replaced fairly recently and looms over a front bumper that, like
its counterpart in back, is in very clean condition, with no
obvious dings and a nice finish. The other exterior fittings,
including the housings on the distinctive triple bar taillights
that continue to be a defining styling feature on Mustangs to this
day, are in very solid shape as well, and the chrome tips of the
dual exhaust look great as they extend below the rear valance.
The interior received a refurbishment a while back, with factory
correct black vinyl covers installed on both the front buckets and
rear bench seat, and the inner doors, quarter trim and other
components nicely painted to match. The seating doesn't appear to
have seen much use so it's looking fresh and comfortable - even the
quarter trim, often the area of most obvious wear, is in good
shape. Take a look inside and you'll notice right away that there's
a fairly decent amount of legroom in back - substantially more than
what you would normally find on the similar sized cars of today, so
your backseat passengers will have some legroom at their disposal
and, with a modern Old Air climate control system replacing its
original counterpart while sending air through the factory in-dash
vents, everyone will ride in comfort. The tidy trunk area also
sports a proper Ford plaid liner over its floor.
Small block Fords such as the 289 cubic inch V8 on hand here forged
a strong reputation for dependability, and with good reason - even
now, some 50 years after this Mustang hit the streets, you'll still
find many of them on the road. This one is nicely dressed with a
properly badged chrome air cleaner on top and a pair of
Ford-branded valve covers at its sides and it's in strong running
condition, offering just a bit of a lope that would indicate an
aftermarket cam has been installed. The 3-speed automatic C4
transmission sitting just behind it was thoroughly serviced only
about a year ago, so it's shifting at the top of its game. Smooth
power steering makes this pivotal classic easy to navigate as it
rolls on its set of 14" American Racing Torq Thrust wheels wrapped
with Douglas Xtra Trac II tires.
Chances to own a solid first generation of the model that features
the strong running condition of this 1968 Ford Mustang don't come
along very often, so this is a great opportunity. Call today!
