Vehicle Description
A number of factors set this 1981 Chevrolet Corvette apart from the
crowd. It's logged only 41,222 miles over its lifetime and still
features its original drivetrain, along with a two-tone color
scheme that's very reminiscent of the Mako Shark concept car that
wowed audiences at car expos around the world a couple of decades
before.
As an '81, this Corvette came along just as its third generation
was drawing to a close. There's a good reason why Chevy kept this
version of the model around so long - it was an aesthetic home run
from the time it was introduced all the way back in the late '60s,
so its manufacturer wisely opted not to mess with a good thing and
instead made only minor modifications over that time. Fittingly,
the car still wears the same silver and gray exterior it began life
with - a color combo that closely mirrors its futuristic concept
car inspiration. The paint carries a nice shine and, as you draw
closer, you'll see that the body alignment on this classic remains
very precise, with nice uniform gaps surrounding the doors, both of
which open and close smoothly. As a third generation Corvette, it
also features a T-top configuration that offers the versatility of
open-air motoring when you so choose, but with shelter close at
hand when called for. The roof panels included are in very good
shape and seal well to keep the elements out.
Inside, the silver leather interior has been well maintained, with
high backed bucket seats that look surprisingly fresh and offer a
nice combination of support and comfort. On both sides, the door
panels still fit flush and don't show the discoloration you'd
rightfully expect after nearly four decades of service. The
remainder of the interior has come through the years in good
fashion as well - the factory gauges in the dash are still clear
and functional, and you'll find no cracks in the pad running across
the top, while below the floor mats have performed their protective
duties, so the carpeting remains nice and fresh underneath. A
retro-looking AM/FM/cassette stereo blends right in on the dash
while also offering iPod connectivity and teaming with an amp and
speakers mounted behind the seats to provide a great audio
experience. There's a nice collection of comfort features on board,
including power windows and door locks, a tilt column, air
conditioning that blows as cold and strong as you could want and a
rear window defogger that really comes in handy in colder
weather.
Having logged so few miles yields some definite benefits as far as
the driving experience this 'Vette offers. It tracks nice and
straight, the suspension feels very solid and the 350 cubic inch V8
under the hood fires right up and runs smoothly as it vocalizes a
nice, subdued tone into the dual Flowmaster exhaust. The engine
compartment is unusually clean - you'd be hard-pressed to find a
single spot on the chrome air cleaner and all the belts and hoses
appear to have been recently replaced. The Corvette's signature low
profile combines with smooth power steering to make it a very
capable corner carver, while power disc brakes at all four corners
bring its set of 15" stock Corvette wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich
T/A radials to prompt, low-effort stops. Having been so
well-protected over the years, it's no surprise that the
undercarriage looks very solid.
Corvettes of this vintage with so few miles and such a strong
running condition are hard to come by, so this 1981 Chevrolet
Corvette offers an unusual opportunity. Call today!
