Vehicle Description
Don't call it a wagon, because after all, the 1956 Chevrolet Nomad
is one of the coolest grocery-getters of all time. This American
icon only gets better with an upgraded V8 power and one of the most
obtainable prices you've seen on this very rare example.
Everyone loves seeing the iconic raked rear hatch and wraparound
glass that made for one of the most prolific icons of the 1950s.
These were the top-of-the-line Chevys that ran with the Bel Air
coupes, and so these came with a lot of intricate brightwork.
Thankfully all of these hard to source pieces are complete on this
one - everything from to the 1956-only grille, to the bright slats
protecting the rear hatch. The sweeping side trim on the '56 is an
exclusive touch that's the most artful of the Tri-Five era. Plus,
those competition-style American Racing Torq Thrust wheels are a
cool classic upgrade that hint at some extra power in this iconic
Chevy. Less than 8,000 Nomads were produced in 1956, making them
the lowest production Chevy that year by far. Now more than 60
years later, you are going to be hard-pressed to find one that is
complete as this example.
The interior highlights all the classic pieces you love, like the
artful steering wheel, button-top two-tone seats, and a dual cowl
dash that looks like it was borrowed from the Corvette. You'll even
love the detail work like the bright headliner trim and AM radio
that's still on display.
The Tri-Fives were the dawn of the small block era. So it's great
to see this history under the hood, but now with a major upgrade.
The 350 cubic-inch crate V8 is much younger and larger than
anything offered in '56. It still has that great classic style with
the bold block and finned valve covers. It really embraces the
small block performance attitude by inhaling through a four-barrel
carburetor and exhaling from long tube headers that add power as
well as growl to the dual exhaust. More than a powerful presence,
you're going to enjoy how this V8 fires readily. That's thanks to
good maintenance, including newer components like the plugs, wires,
distributor, and large aluminum radiator. Plus, with a three-speed
automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes, this
Nomad is ready to enjoy right now.
There's potential here for everything from a cool rat rod to a
restoration that'll command top-dollar. That's the beauty of a
having a rare Nomad that's so complete and already so powerful.
