Vehicle Description
1953 Studebaker Commander
The Studebaker Commander is the model name of several automobiles
produced by the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend, Indiana
(United States) and Studebaker of Canada Ltd of Walkerville and,
later, Hamilton, Ontario (Canada). Studebaker began using the
Commander name in 1927 and continued to use it until 1964, with the
exception of 1936 and 1959-63. The name was applied to various
products in the company's line-up from year to year.
For consignment basically a parts and mechanicals car, I would not
even go as far as a barn find on this unit, which offers up plenty
of rusted panels, missing chrome, and a very unstable
undercarriage. A consigner stated 37,000 miles on the engine which
does currently not run.
Exterior
Extensively rusted panels, and steel hood, trunk lid, pretty much
everywhere it is seen. Brite work and chrome are pitted and have
lost most of their shine.
Interior
A tan vinyl split 50/50 bench stretches across the interior in
front of this car, and behind it is a matching rear bench, which
are in fair condition. Carpeting is fair but faded a bit up front.
Dash presents with heavy corrosion, non-working gauges, and bad
metal paint on the interior.
Drivetrain
Equipped with a 232ci V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor and a 3-speed
manual transmission that sits in its corroded engine bay.
Undercarriage
Extensive surface rust, as well as invasive rust is seen
throughput. It appears the original floorpans were rotted out and
repaired with inserting floorpans. Lots of invasive rust is noted
on the frame, door panels and wheel wells.
We can sum it up here and give you a report that this is a parts
car, with possibly the mechanical end being the most desirable
asset, in an otherwise not too promising environment.
