Vehicle Description
1991 Cadillac Allante
The Cadillac Allant is a two-door, two-seater luxury roadster
produced by Cadillac from 1987 until 1993. It used a Cadillac
chassis and running gear with a body built in Italy by coach
builder Pininfarina. It was expensive to produce with the complete
bodies flown to Detroit for final assembly. Over 21,000 were built
during its seven-year production run.
For consignment production sequence number #46 for 1991, this car
is pictured with the aluminum hardtop, and is not fitted with the
convertible top, however the hardtop is removable. Due to the
configuration of the rear storage and finish, no "boot" is
necessary, because essentially there is no convertible top or frame
to deal with.
Exterior
A metallic Champagne paint floods the panels, bumpers, and aluminum
hardtop. In typical early 1990's design a squared off shortened
body, with correct badging and all parts attached presents in fair
to good condition.
Interior
10-way Recaro leather bucket seats allow pretty much any human form
to get themselves comfortable. Leave it to the Germans to think of
everything, and then some! After you've adjusted it just right,
there is a memory button, so you do not have to do it all over
again. A digital instrument panel presents all the information
you'll need in colorful bliss and neato graphics. Power windows,
power locks, a tilt wheel, cruise control and for those who have an
aversion to turning on headlights, a sentinel for doing just that
mundane and pedestrian task. A self-described "Symphony Sound
System" is installed and will bring melodious wide-ranging sounds
to your ears in the form of AM/FM or CD formats. Last, you can pick
the exact temperature you wish to be bathed in with the electronic
climate control center.
Drivetrain
This front wheel drive vehicle is driven by...you (the driver) who
in turn drives the engine which is a 4.5 Liter Northstar V8 which
pumps out 200hp and 270lb/ft of torque. This is converted to wheel
power by the 4-speed F7 automatic transmission which shifts so
smoothly, we actually had to watch the tachometer to see if it was
working.
Undercarriage
Clean and rust free excepting a few areas of surface rust. Seen is
speed dependent dampening control, 4-wheel disc brakes, and
electronically controlled shocks. Clean floor pans, rockers, and
frame are good all around.
The Allante, an experiment with a collaboration between GM and
Pininfarina, built in Italy, assembled in Michigan, as you can see
is a high optioned car, with many creature comforts. This car
overall presents in good condition, drives smoothly, and is a true
turn key and go automobile.
