Vehicle Description
1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Coupe
A fair amount of the classics that come through the doors here at
Classic Auto Mall are of a caliper that is more show than actual
go. These are all wonderful cars, however when you were a kid, did
you dream of trailering your car to shows, turning the key only
when the sun is shining, and only driving short distances if any
for fear the odometer would turn an important milestone?
Bet you did not, and there have been several consigners coming
through our door that are unloading their classics for that very
reason, they are tired of that routine.
If you want a great runner, you can hop in and drive it on any trip
short or long, and if it rains, roll the windows up! This is the
car for you, of you are a midcentury modern bow tie fan, and don't
want the hassle of rummaging through endless junkyards for parts,
or spending money on expensive repairs, the consigner has already
done this for you. A beautifully restored Chevrolet Impala,
Resto-Mod style with an updated 572ci GM crate motor that punches
out 620hp at an effortless the turn of a key, make a timely visit
to Classic Auto Mall.
Exterior
Bathed in endless deep Candy Apple Wineberry with black ghost
flames, the steel straight, evenly gapped panels are wave free, and
fit like it just left the factory. All brightwork is beautiful, and
correct badging is seen overall. There is even trim accenting the
gas filler door...now that's 60's cool! The car sports an SS Logo
on the rear quarter panel. Curved front glass with a sun filtering
tint coating at the top, stretches across the back of the hood, and
shows in very good condition. A large reversed hood scoop adorns
the front of the car. Steel wheels accented with Chevrolet Hub caps
and shiny polished rims are seen all around. I had the pleasure of
logging a few miles on this baby, and it is a great driver, with an
unbelievable kick.
Interior
Black vinyl with vertical tufting in the middle of plain back
bolsters cover the buckets in the front and bench in back. The
buckets are framed in shiny trim at the back. Door panels take on a
similar version of this seat motif, and show a smattering of chrome
door actuators, window cranks, and buttons all of which present in
good condition. The two-tiered dash utilizes machined aluminum with
small parallelogram design, and sparkles with chromed knobs and an
aftermarket radio. A wood covered 3 spoked machined aluminum
steering wheel fronts the quintessential Chevy styled speedo, fuel
gauge and clock. We can also note the trunk is clean enough and
probably large enough to live in and is wrapped with textured trunk
paint.
Drivetrain
A 572ci V8 replaces the original engine and is draped with a dual
intake chrome air cleaner, as well as 572 Chevrolet orange valve
covers. It inhales through a 4-barrel carburetor, and exhales
through a pristine exhaust system. In between sits a 4-speed
Richmond transmission, which shifts smoother than silk. The whole
engine bay is showroom clean, and ready to have dinner served on
it! New power disc brakes bring this car back to reality as to
speed very efficiently.
Undercarriage
As one expects with such a quality build, pristine sums it up. A 9
inch 3:55 Rear, and Hotchkiss sway bars front and back, as well as
4 new shocks. Last a new gas tank and sending unit are present.
A careful and painstaking restoration by the consigner, finished 6
years ago, is now here for the taking, and for another's pleasure.
A meticulous build with some serious horsepower, and upgrades to
handle it. Careful hold your neck up straight and tighten up!
