Vehicle Description
This 1965 Pontiac GTO convertible is an outstanding example of a
beautifully designed classic automobile. Pontiac Motor Division's
Tempest for 1965 presented new styling, including vertically
mounted headlights and increased length. A total of 11,311 GTO
convertibles were built in 1965. This car was sold new at the
Miller Automobile Company located in White River Junction, VT. As
documented on the Pontiac Historic Services paperwork this car was
ordered with the GTO option which included a 4bbl 389ci V8 engine
and dual exhaust, sports-type springs and shocks, special 7-blade
fan and fan clutch, 7.75x14" red line tires, chrome air cleaner
cover, chrome rocker arm covers and GTO emblems. It was also
ordered with the following options: custom wheel discs (spinner hub
caps), backup lamps, Rally gauge cluster and tachometer, windshield
washer and dual-speed wipers, custom sports steering wheel,
seatbelts with outboard retractor- front pair, quick steering (20:1
ratio), 4-speed synchromesh - fully synchronized and Safe-T-Track
rear axle, Bluemist Slate exterior color, black folding top color
and blue interior trim. This car was recently gone through by
well-known Scott Tiemann of Supercar Specialties, Inc. Scott
Tiemann disassembled and reassembled a lot of the car with many
correct components for the GTO Nationals Judging. It is a very
correct restoration with great attention to detail throughout. The
exterior body is extremely straight with great gaps. The car was
finished in its original color of Bluemist Slate and the paint is
show quality. It sports a new correct black convertible power top.
All of the glass and exterior appointments are also in show-quality
condition. The car sits on the 14" wheels with US Royal Safety 800
7.75x14" red line tires. Over $5,000 was invested in purchasing and
restoring the original spinner hub caps. The new correct blue
Legendary interior looks amazing and complements the exterior color
perfectly. Everything in the interior is in working order. The
trunk compartment is nicely restored and organized with the spare
tire, jack tools and trunk mat. The correct engine compartment is
highly detailed and home to the matching numbers 389ci V8 engine.
The engine is equipped with an NOS oil sending unit. The engine
breathes through a correct Gardner exhaust system. The engine is
coupled to the matching numbers 4-speed manual M20 wide-ratio
transmission that shifts beautifully. The power is transferred to
the pavement through the Safe-T-Track rear axle with 3.23 gears.
The undercarriage is also highly detailed and mirror quality. The
car is equipped with four NOS shocks and NOS water based decals.
The PHS paperwork, binder with receipts, restoration photos, car
cover and owner's manual are included. This car is a 2018 GTOAA
Nationals Concours Gold Award winner. It scored an impressive 676
points out of a max 700 points. This car runs and drives as great
as it looks.
