Boyd Coddington was a major player in the car scene all his life,
especially during the early 2000s. His personal touch created many
marvelous pieces of rolling artwork! Roush has always made some of
the most iconic Mustangs of all time, so it only makes sense for
these two to band together and make something special. This came to
fruition in 2003 when Ford got together with both Boyd Coddington
and Roush to produce a limited number of Roush-Boyd Coddington
California Roadsters and they stand out in a crowd even today.
This 2003 Ford Mustang Roush-Boyd Coddington California roadster is
not only an example of an already rare vehicle but also one of
least common of the bunch. Out of 100 cars built, just 58 were
convertibles. Of those 58, 13 were factory Roush supercharged. Of
those 13 supercharged convertibles, only four were Torch Red/Black
two-tone. Not only is this one of those 4, but it is number SC003
of the supercharged vehicles!
Inside and out, this Mustang is in nice driver condition with just
25,397 miles. The exterior and interior both show some minor wear
that you would expect with a 15-year old vehicle. (Yep 2003 was
15-years ago now.. feel old yet?) and the original Boyd Coddington
wheels have been swapped out for tasteful, black Roush wheels. The
black wheels look great against the black and red paint scheme with
the essential Boyd Coddington decals on the doors. Under the hood
is a Ford 4.6-liter V8 with the addition of a Roots-style Roush
supercharger.
The interior is in well-kept condition aside from some wear on the
driver's seat. The interior is finished in a two-tone leather
pattern that matches the exterior. On the console is a plaque
denoting this as number SC003, but that isn't even the coolest
interior feature! By far, the coolest feature is the tachometer, as
these cars had them signed by Boyd Coddington himself.
This Mustang runs, drives, and handles as it should. It has been in
the same family since it was new and is a very nice piece of early
2000s Boyd Coddington history. The supercharged examples seem to be
much harder to find than the non-supercharged versions and there
are very few supercharged California roadsters for sale. If you're
looking for the essential piece to add to your Mustang or Boyd
Coddington collection, this car is certainly worthy of your
consideration!
