Vehicle Description
1964 Buick Riviera
Designed by renowned General Motors icon, Bill Mitchell, the Buick
Riviera was introduced in 1963 to rave reviews from automobile
enthusiasts around the world. The completely new model was directed
squarely at the Ford Thunderbird of the era, but with more
performance, power and luxury than its competitor.
Offered is a beautiful 1964 Buick Riviera in Claret Mist Metallic
with optional brown vinyl and with cloth insert seating. A true
icon of style and a car that lives up to its name, this Riviera is
pleasing to look at and drive.
Exterior
At the front of this 'personal luxury car', a bold stainless grille
hangs four headlights between streamlined parking lights and a
showroom fresh chrome bumper. At the top of the car, the first use
of Buick's stylized "R" fronts a sculpted hood which flows to
like-new glass, bright stainless trim, satin finish wipers and two
chrome cowl vents. At the sides of the car, rocker spears combine
with wheel moldings to parallel stylish fender louvers, traditional
door handles, new "Riviera" scripts and awesome Buick mirrors. And
at the back of the car, a second showroom fresh bumper hangs clear
reverse lamps below Buick's famous "R" branded tail lights and an
offset "Riviera" decklid script. The Buick sits on new tires that
wrap factory original wire wheel covers.
Interior
Optional two-tone cloth and vinyl mix in all earth tones welcomes
the passengers inside a luxurious and well cared for cockpit. A
wood veneered console runs through the front buckets and is trimmed
in polished aluminum. A shifter reminiscent of the Seattle Space
Needle with a wood knob sits proudly in the middle of the console.
A back bench seat is divided on top by a stainless vertically
ribbed panel with the R logo in the center. The dash, which shows
in beautiful condition, is aluminum panels framed with earth tone
vinyl and some woodgrain, and houses like new gauges. An electric
eye can be seen on top of the dash, as well as air-conditioning,
power seats, power windows, and power steering.
Drivetrain
Power is provided by an optional 425ci/360hp Grand Sport dual carb
powered mill. This is teamed with the Turbine Drive automatic
transmission providing more acceleration than the prior model. With
the Grand Sport "Super Wild Cat" engine option this Riviera can
cruise at 110 mph all day and snap off quarter mile times in the
low 16 seconds.
Undercarriage
A very clean underneath is showing slight surface rust but is in
very good condition. A newer exhaust system has been installed, and
we can view the fade resistant aluminum finned brakes which are all
around.
