Who doesn’t love the second generation Dodge Charger? This restored 1968 model represents one of the most identifiable muscle cars of all time. It was a smashing success when new, selling nearly three times what Dodge expected. It has been a go-to car for television and movies alike. And its legacy continues on to this day.
This Charger is one of the nicer examples you’ll find. It has its original rust-free sheetmetal with original undercoating as well. It was repainted in factory Medium Green Metallic and received R/T accents as well. The vinyl top was changed from green to black which gives an ideal contrast with the lines of the Charger. All chrome and moldings are in excellent condition as are the Magnum wheels with redline radial tires.
The Charger has its original 383ci motor (casting date 8-8-67) that has been converted to a 4-barrel setup with a proper 2806301 intake manifold and Carter AFB carburetor. This is a great street engine with a proper balance between power and drivability. The transmission is a 727 Torqueflite automatic while the 8-3/4” rear is equipped with 2.76 gears for good highway performance. The car was equipped from the factory with a 26-inch radiator and power brakes. There is power steering as well. It all makes for a very nice riding car that is fun and easy to drive.
The green interior has also been redone. It retains the factory bucket seat arrangement with center console and floor shifter. The dash has the desirable Rallye gauge package with 150mph speedometer. There is also an attractive woodgrain steering wheel. Additional options include a remote side view mirror and hood mounted turn signals. And of course there is the factory air conditioning that works properly.
The Dodge Charger continues to be an in-demand classic. This one brings a lot to the table with its looks, performance, and overall condition. In addition it has a good fender tag, radiator support stamping, and two build sheets. Whether you’re just looking for a cruise night ride or a trip down Route 66, this one can get it done.
