For Sale: 1970 Dodge Challenger in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

For most enthusiasts, the privilege of owning a classic car isn't about numbers or return on investment. It's about heading out on the weekend and having a little bit of fun. It's about making a statement and turning heads. It's about the excitement of putting the wind in their face and the roar of an American V8 at their back. That's why rides like this awesome Challenger resto-mod have such a loyal following. Sure, you'll probably see another one at the show. And it might not turn into a six-figure asset over the next decade. But, it's cool, it's stylish, it's unique and, most importantly, it provides a whole lot of enjoyment! Want to make it yours? Your friends at RK Motors Charlotte are happy to help!

HEMI ORANGE, NATURALLY

This cool E-Body's nut-and-bolt, rotisserie restoration began when its solid fuselage was meticulously stripped, carefully massaged and thoroughly sanded by the good folks at Mint Restorations of Clearwater, Florida. Once that canvas was fully prepped, flaked Hemi Orange base was cased in clear and dressed in sinister stripes. And today, this Dodge rolls as one very well done pro-tourer that's built to turn heads and snap necks!

Unlike many striped and decaled creations, which tend to throw good taste out the window, this awesome MoPar seamlessly balances a cool personality with flashy good looks. At the front of the car, a gray, '70-exclusive grille hangs trick headlights above a mirrored bumper, sculpted parking lamps and T/A chin spoilers. At the top of that grille, a pinned, T/A-style hood centers a functional scoop in front of like-new glass that's framed in polished stainless and reflected in color-keyed Rallye mirrors. At the sides of that hood, satin door handles, bright marker lamps and an ornate fuel filler highlight a smooth, professionally finished profile. And at the back of the car, a "DODGE" branded valance hangs familiar taillights between polished exhaust, a T/A deck spoiler and a second polished bumper.

TWO WORDS: INDY & HEMI

Check the smoothed engine bay and you'll find 528 cubic inches of Indy Street Legend Hemi that twists hearty 10.25 to 1 compression into 726 dyno-proven horsepower and 667 lb./ft. of tire-scorching torque! At the top of that $22K engine, a factory-style air cleaner threads wind in to a steady stream of fossils that's provided by an 850cfm Demon 4-barrel. That perfect mixture of air and fuel floods a slick Indy intake, which funnels speed in to aluminum Indy heads that are dressed in polished breathers and cast valve covers. Those heads cap a Maxx aluminum block, which spins an Eagle 4340 crank and Eagle H-beam rods under Diamond pistons and a Comp roller cam. At the front of that cam, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences spark between an MSD Blaster HVC coil and loomed MSD FireCore plug wires. At the front of those wires, a Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine drive spins a MoPar water pump between a polished compressor, a polished alternator and tight power steering. Cooling is provided by a big Be Cool radiator, which rides between spry SPAL fans and a polished expansion tank. Exhaust roars through a web of stainless headers. And details like billet hood supports, a Melling oil pump and a 9-quart oil pan cement this Dodge's status as a well-blended piece of choice mechanical art.

EXTREME POWER, XTREME VELOCITY

Take one look under this buff E-Body and you'll see that it definitely has the chops to back up its sinister good looks. The smooth-revving engine is hooked to a Keisler-supplied Tremec TKO600 5-speed that's fitted with a heavy duty hydraulic clutch. That $5,400 transmission jerks a stalwart Chrysler 8.75-inch axle, which is finished with a posi-traction differential and big, 3.73 gears. The car's old-school torsion bar front-half has been completely replaced by an XV Level II Suspension, which includes: an aluminum K-member, aluminum controls arms, aluminum spindles, a splined sway bar and Hyperco coil-over-shocks. That Level II prowess extends out back, where factory leaf springs have been exchanged for an adjustable 3-link, which employs a custom sway bar, an adjustable Panhard bar and more adjustable Hyperco coil-overs. That pavement-ripping suspension is augmented by modern power rack-and-pinion steering and first class XV hydroboost braking, which pinches 14-inch slotted rotors via 6-piston calipers and 13-inch slotted rotors via 2-piston calipers. An intimidating engine note comes courtesy of polished pipes and polished Magnaflow mufflers. Power meets the pavement through 3-piece Boze wheels, which spin 275/35ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As in front of 295/35ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As. And the car's body-matched floors frame an array of niceties that includes stainless fluid lines, a stainless fuel tank and welded subframe connectors.

CUSTOM COMFORT

Between the doors, a custom cockpit seamlessly melds the timeless good looks of American muscle with tasteful upgrades and modern conveniences. Thick leather seats frame serious RJS harnesses in sporty orange stitching. In front of those seats, a sculpted dash hangs reliable Auto Meter telemetry above modern AC, modern audio and metal foot pedals. That dash flows into a stylish console that's fashioned around a TKO Pistol Grip Shifter. Rich carpet crawls to custom side panels, which front modern power windows. And in front of the driver, a polished and half-wrapped steering wheel laps a polished, tilting column.
