Vehicle Description
1978 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
To mark the Corvettes 25th Anniversary, some notable improvements
were made. 1978 Corvettes had a new fastback roofline and rear
window. These changes enhanced the Corvette's sleek silhouette. The
new and improved rear window not only allowed for a cleaner styling
profile; it also improved visibility for the driver and adds extra
luggage space. Inside, there is also room for storage of the
removable roof panels. A larger, plastic-lined fuel tank was also a
new addition to the '78 Vette. Capacity was boosted from 17 to 24
gallons. The instrument panel was also restyled and featured
face-mounted, round, easy to read instruments.
A CHW engine suffix denotes this anniversary year Corvette has an
L48 engine and 4-speed manual transmission. Good condition would
describe this Corvette...so if interested read on!
Exterior
Corvette Red, covers the fiberglass body. A few imperfections in
the form of something laid on the paint, and left a mark are noted
to be seen on top surfaces. This Vette is one of 972 with factory
tinted glass "T" tops. Aluminum wheels, sport mirrors, and a power
antenna are options added on to this car at its birth.
Interior
Tall backed black leather buckets sit comfortably in the cockpit.
Leather shows use in the form of wrinkles and patina, but no real
damage. A center console houses the handbrake, as well as the shift
lever and climate controls. Making its way up to the dash an
aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM Cassette with dual rear speakers added,
and a cluster of round gauges make themselves available to show the
driver of any problems. A square design dash has the speedometer,
tachometer, as well as a veritable Christmas tree of warning
lights. A tilt/telescoping steering wheel column has been added to
the options list. Power windows are there for your convenience as
well. New carpets are installed.
Drivetrain
A 350ci V8 with a 4-speed can be seen with the flip of the hood.
Noted are chromed valve covers, a chromed air cleaner lid, and
brake reservoir cover. Consigner informs me he has the original
parts that were replaced by the chromed ones. A new radiator, water
pump, battery and new in box (not yet installed) R-134 conversion
AC kit.
Undercarriage
4-wheel disc brakes are seen, as well as a new exhaust from the gas
tank rearward. New shock absorbers are noted, and consigner has had
the car serviced and tuned. Area below radiator shows extensive
rust and rust through.
With the design changes in the 1978 year, this car is a good
example of a mostly original car. Garaged, and well maintained,
with a few exterior paint faults, some surface rust underneath, and
the under the radiator issue seen, overall a good driver with a a
documented 61,728 miles.
