You don't often come across a classic, performance centric ride
offering what this 1996 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT can. It's logged
only 26,117 miles - just over two years' worth of driving, by most
standards - and will arrive at its next destination with a clean
history report as proof that it's led an easy life.
As the mid-'90s approached, Ford was becoming keenly aware that its
existing generation of Mustangs, though very capable, was due for
some revamping. They undertook the process with an absolute
vengeance, sinking nearly three quarters of a billion dollars into
efforts that resulted in a refined modern day muscle car that
improved upon its predecessor on all accounts. The exterior on this
'96 stands as proof and is a major beneficiary of the light usage
this car has seen. The Candy Apple Red metallic paint it's wearing
is still in top form, with a strong shine and smooth texture. Those
styling cues coming part and parcel with the SVT Cobra designation
are all in consistently good shape, including the rear spoiler and

carpeting lining the floor that's been well protected by its floor
mats. In addition to its clean appearance, the functionality of the
interior is also impressive - the gauges residing in the instrument
panel are all in good working order, the power seats, power windows
and door locks respond promptly, the air conditioning is blowing
cold and strong, and the AM/FM/CD/Cassette stereo fills the cabin
with quality sound. In back, the trunk area offers a bit more room
than you'd likely expect and, judging from the wrinkle-free look of
the carpeting over its floor, hasn't seen a lot of activity. Driver
and passenger airbags offer an added measure of safety as well.
By the time this Mustang rolled out, Ford was already equipping its
GTs with admirable performance, but under the capable hands of its
Special Vehicle Team, Cobras like this one take things to a higher
level. Ford's 4.6 liter modular V8 was redesigned with double
overhead cams, as well as more efficient heads and intake manifold
to bring its output to over 300 horsepower when it first hit the
street. This one remains very stock as well with the only notable
aftermarket item being the mass air flow sensor. The powerplant
sits in a well-detailed engine bay - every surface looks like it's
been recently steam cleaned - teaming with a 5-speed manual
transmission to provide just the compelling driving experience a
performer like this deserves. Combine the SVT Cobra's low-slung
stance with an improved suspension and smooth power steering and
you have an exhilarating corner carver on your hands, while disc
