The Shelby Cobra is the most iconic American sports car of all time. Carol Shelby after years of successful race car driving for the greatest European makes such as Aston Martin, Austin Healey and Maserati, created his own car: The AC Cobra. Taking the small, agile and lightweight British AC and transplanting a Ford V8 into the car made a combination like no one had ever seen before. The handling and looks of a European sports car with the horsepower and torque of an American Muscle car. The earliest version having the small block Ford 289 later stepping up to the big block 427 engine taking the Cobra to a whole different level becoming even more competitive in the racing scene.
Over the years the Cobra has been replicated, some being more accurate than others. This particular Cobra re-creation is a very well executed example that has obviously been subject to a build that was a labor of love. When new in 1999 it was built professionally by Lone Star Cobra in Texas. The Ford 429 (427SC) engine was built by Robert Mays and was balanced and blueprinted and runs and drives incredibly well. It has loads of torque and power. The Tremec 5 speed transmission makes it very comfortable to drive with lots of torque in lower gears and plenty of speed in higher gears. Its the perfect combination for backroad and highway driving. Overall it is in very nice condition and shows very well in the very period correct dark green color and black leather interior. The dash is also very nicely finished. Overall this is a very well executed big block 427 cobra recreation that is ready to be shown and driven.
