Up for sale is a very nice example of an early square body short bed third gen Chevrolet C10 Pickup.
This 1974 Custom Deluxe was a drive by acquisition; parked on the curb in a nondescript Phoenix neighborhood with a For Sale sign in the window. The seller couldn't tell me any details beyond the obvious, which was that this is a dry, rust free desert truck with a nice simple but all around refresh.
Finished appropriately in Desert Sand it is true to the original save the period correct 8 hole steel wheels clad with fresh fat 295/50-15 Cooper Cobras. Likewise the interior is in very tidy condition in original style materials. Dash pad, instrument cluster, door panels, carpet and headliner all look great. An amplifier and speakers are hidden behind the seats. They are connected to a modern in dash head unit that sounds good. AC blows cold; heat hot. All lights and instrumentation in proper working order.
The truck is powered by what is likely a not original small block 350 engine that seems to be equipped with a mild cam. It has an Edelbrock aluminum intake, four barrel carb and dress up kit. Headers and dual Flowmaster exhaust give it the sound to match its street stance. Power to the rear wheels is through a Turbo 350 3-speed automatic transmission. Power steering and power (front disc) brakes round out this well equipped Chevy.
The truck starts right up and idles smoothly. It has plenty of power under foot and accelerates strong; the tranny shifts up and kicks down as it should. Brakes and steering are spot on. Its a good handling truck. It's worth repeating that this truck sounds fantastic.
Square body Chevrolet Pickups are hot, and the short bed Fleetside has become the collectors choice. Of course the real beauty of owning a well kept, highly presentable, mechanically sound example like this one is that you can drive it everyday, cruise on Saturday night and show it on Sunday afternoon. Best of all, take care of it and it will never lose value.
