Vehicle Description
As far as classics go, it's pretty hard to get more iconic than
this 1957 Ford Thunderbird. When the first model was released not
long before this '57 debuted, the combination of style and
responsive performance it offered gave rise to an entirely new
classification of automobile - the personal luxury car. That niche
is well-represented right here, as this T-Bird is a solid driver,
looks great both inside and out and will arrive at its next
destination with an extensive collection of maintenance records on
board to document the attentive care it's received.
The Inca gold paint draped over the exterior really makes you take
notice - it's a distinctively appealing color and it represents the
original shade this T-Bird drove off the showroom floor with so
many decades ago. A closer look will also reveal that the paint is
in good form here, with a nice shine and smooth uniform texture
from front to back. In this era, the model featured so many
aesthetic magnets to draw you in and they're all in top shape, as
well - the bumpers both fore and aft sit level and show no
blemishes, the front grille looks just as it did from the start and
all the other brightwork onboard presents well. When the skies
darken, you'll have a couple of options for protection at your
disposal - a cloth black convertible top, as well as a
snugly-fitting white accessory hard top that features a pair of
very stylish porthole windows in back.
The interior has obviously seen its share of attention over the
years to arrive in its current stellar state. It's been kept in its
original configuration, yet everything inside has a fresh look to
it, starting with the black vinyl bench seat, which features
contrasting white inserts on both the driver and passenger side
that tie in perfectly with the matching two-tone door panels on
each side. Below, the black carpeting lining the floor appears to
have been recently replaced. The original steering wheel still sits
on the column, wrapped in leather for a great feel, while the dash
area behind it is also in very good condition and features a great
looking textured chrome insert running the width of the cabin while
encircling an assortment of clear, readable gauges. An
AM/FM/cassette deck sits at the center to provide your tunes while
on the road, while an underdash air conditioning system has been
added to up the comfort level inside. Raise the deck lid in back
and you'll find the factory spare sitting in its proper vertical
position.
The 292 cubic inch V8 sitting inside is almost certainly the
original engine and with its squeaky clean surfaces and chrome air
cleaner and valve covers, it looks just as it did when new. It now
sports a 4-barrel Holley carb on top and is in good running form,
starting right up and still pulling with plenty of power. It's
paired with a Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission that's
shifting nicely and with a solid Ford 9" rear end also in the mix,
the entire vintage drivetrain acquits itself well. The first
generation T-Birds, of which this '57 is a proud member, were all
about offering opulent comfort in a compact, responsive package
and, in that spirit, the power steering makes navigation easy while
power brakes bring low effort stops. This rolling icon represents
the mid-'50s in ultimate style on its set of ultra-sharp 14" spoked
wheels properly outfitted with whitewalls for just the right
vintage appearance.
