1948 GMC 100 5-Window Pickup
GMC traces its history to the 1902 founding of the Rapid Motor
Vehicle Company in Pontiac, Michigan. In 1909 William C. Durant
gained control of Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and made it a
subsidiary of his General Motors Company. In 1911 General Motors
formed the General Motors Truck Company and folded Rapid. In 1912
the Rapid name was dropped in favor of "GMC." All General Motors
truck production was consolidated at the former Rapid Motor Plant 1
in Pontiac. In 1916, a GMC Truck crossed the country from Seattle
to New York City in thirty days, and in 1926, a 2-ton GMC truck was
driven from New York to San Francisco in five days and 30 minutes.
During the Second World War, GMC Trucks produced 600,000 trucks for
use by the United States Armed Forces.
This extremely well put together Hot Rod definitely has that Ol'
Skool Rockabilly look that is all the rage in the Hot Rod collector
world. The detail put into the build of this truck is remarkable.
It sounds and runs great and could be used on a daily basis.
Exterior
Hot Rod Suede Grey in a beautiful matte finish envelopes this
truck. Santa Fe Style Pinstripe adorns the shaved hood, and
tailgate, as well as the frenched headlights. BFG Silvertown Wide
White Radials on New Red steelies with chrome trim rings are on all
4 corners. A chopped top retains the original 5 window
configuration. Red stripe highlighted running boards connect the
fenders which have been tubbed for a lower ride. Doors have been
shaved as well. A new wood bed with custom made storage chests
resides behind the cab.
Interior
Butterscotch and brown rag rolled looking alligator skin vinyl make
up the bolsters, and upper door panels. Sparkling silver Zodiac is
stitched within the bench, as well as the lower door panel. Black
pinstriped valve covers form the armrests on the doors. Matching
piping surrounds the seat as well. A gold dash with more Santa Fe
style pinstripe houses beautiful are deco style gauges, and black
dice knobs and switches. An adjustable steering column, with silver
Zodiac wheel fronts the beautiful dash. Black carpet floods the
cabin floor and has nicely done rubber mats to protect itself.
Drivetrain
A 383ci Stroker sits in a custom painted and pinstriped engine bay.
Bolted on back is a 350 Turbo hydramatic transmission, and atop
sits a custom air cleaner also pinstriped. Shining headers, and a
new radiator and fan are seen as well
Undercarriage
Obviously frame off showroom clean presents on the underside. A
Camaro subframe front end is seen and a 12-bolt rear on leaf
springs are present. A Flowmaster Exhaust with electric cutouts and
an otherwise pristine frame is exemplary of this build. Bringing up
the rear is a stainless-steel fuel tank.
This quirky but gorgeous color combination, pinstriped, 383
stroker, chopped, frenched, shaved, 5-Window pickup is a head
turner, and sounds great to boot. One could use the term Rockabilly
to describe the genre for this consignment. How about a pristine
